Advanced AI or dumb player?

Hello, I'm knew to this forum, I used to see the articles all the time however back in Civ 3.

Been recently playing on warlord and found that the AI players reach the classical era and medival era sooo much quicker than me. They are literally about 60+ turns ahead of me when it comes to research. Im i doing something wrong? or do they just have such a big advantage? Im still in second or third place in points.

Reaching an era first isn't that big a deal in this game. The AI sometimes use beelines and slingshots which means they may get to medieval fast, but still lack many classical techs.

How is your literacy rate compared to them?

More importantly, do you win?

If you find you are falling behind in tech, get some libraries up faster, grow your cities more or expand more.

I believe the AI actually is at a disadvantage to you on warlord difficulty, fwiw. You probably could stand to step up your game a little.

Like the others said, don't pay too much mind to the AI getting to the next age. All you have to do is research one tech from that age to "enter" it

Now if they are TWO eras ahead, then you should be worried

AAh, ok. I was misunderstood, I thought you had to have a current tech to enter into the next. I see now. Thanks for the help yall.

I got confused when you said Advanced AI and I thought you were referring to a 4-year old. :/

I think the question has to be answered by saying "dumb player". No offense meant, of course, but if thou askest the question, thou shalt receive the answer.

Just get your libraries quicker. When you get writing, build a couple of libraries right off and fill at least one of their slots on each library with a specialist.

Generally research writing after you get either iron working or horseback writing. Don't go off on a lot of tangents before writing. Get your basic military tech for the early game and then get writing.

That's why it's a technology. If it was easy, you'd know it from the start of the game.

With horseback writing, you can write a letter and deliver it at the same time. Huge time saver.

to answer the op. at warlord, it really should be a walk in the park for you. I think you are forgetting about libraries. like others before me have said, try and put scientist to work in all your cities and you will quickly see a difference. if you can, fill both slots and you will quickly be pumping out great scientist. you can use their ability to research a free tech. you will soon find how quickly that makes you catch up, and at warlord level, easily surpass the AI.
