I play hot seat, advanced start in industrial era with and we start with at least two three times the amount of starting cash.

Be a jerk and buy/fastrack techs for nukes, disregarding anything else, save tonne of cash, buy a bunch of nukes and nuke first/second turn don't even have to be able to invade, and leave lots of fallout on opponents crucial resources. They will give up, especially if not close to having tech to build nukes themselves.

Something funny- you can buy as many privateers as you want in advanced start, built like twenty once and totally hemmed in opponent, could not settle anywhere overseas, develope water based resources or use any water tiles. I ended up killing them all off for a trade of money, another funny thing is you can upgrade privateers into destroyers, automatic water control!!

Also in advanced can buy visibilty in one stripe around world to nulify circumnavigation bonus, I try to use bribes to get open borders/world maps and fly airships into their cities circumnavigate in as quick a two turns.

Order for purchasing--
-develope resources first
-then buy techs
-then building
-then units
-allowing for the most different units/upgrades.
-just don't blow the budget!!!

Always buy lots of settlers and workers.

People like to play Civ this way? And people play with you when you act this way? I know I wouldn't.

Have fun "being a jerk."
I suppose a name with slayer in it explains it all.

He's only really a jerk if he's playing this way when everyone else thought they weren't playing Civ 4 but instead playing a game of Civ 4 + additional rules and restrictions on what you can do.

I don't see how its fun for anyone to get nuked right away. Sometimes what makes you win isn't the strategy that makes the game the most enjoyable

I am always curious why someone would play a competitive game if they don't enjoy competition!

This is pretty much straight up play to win. Other people might want competition, but in an enjoyable way, involving buildup to long wars, diplomacy, etc. Basically a normal style Civ game with other players involved to make it interesting.

If it were a strictly competitive match, than things like this are fine of course, but in a normal mp game, which it sounds like he's talking about, it might not be fun if you just wanted to try out multiplayer, join, and get nuked quickly. I thought the privateer thing was interesting though.

I consider fun to be the most important, but I know some people have fun playing this style. It would just suck if you didn't know what you were up against.

Sounds like a zergling rush to me, but zerglings don't do as much damage as nukes.
Are you kidding me?

A nuke costs 200/200, takes up 8 supply, and is very uncertain when carried by a fragile Ghost.

Dropping a Ghost hided to nuke an expansion won't even kill it right away. It will destroy nearby fortifications and peons, sure, but nothing else. You need two nukes to destroy a Command Center or Hatchery, one nuke to kill a Nexus if you pair the Ghost with an EMP shot from Science Vessel.

8 Zerglings, which is the mineral cost for a nuke, will eat that expansion in a few seconds. The gas cost comes in a Defiler, who casts Dark Swarm over the fortifications so they're completely useless.

It's much more efficient to just send a ton of Zerglings towards the expansion. If they're 3/3 and on Crack upgrades (and they have to be), they will bring down the expansion in seconds and the operation is much less risky.

They can be dropped in many places. With Defilers, it's just crazy, because under Dark Swarm, an unsuspecting opponent can't even defend, he has to bring his army back to the base to defend (Cannons don't work. Templars might, but Zerglings are very swift when operating in a base and you still force the Protoss to leave Templars in his base).

Zerglings are a lot faster and cheaper than a nuke, and much more reliable. It's easier to win with a mass Zerglings army than with a bunch of nukes.

...

What are we talking about, again?

Hmmm, perhaps I should have said zerglings don't do as much damage as quickly as nukes. Also, a zergling rush would be, by necessity, un-upgraded zerglings. Finally, my analogy to a zergling rush was based on crippling an opponent early in the game with whatever units were readily available. A viable but somewhat cheesy strategy, but not as cheesy as a drone rush.

Probably should have put this in multiplayer, as it is purely a way to showcase your ingenuity to your real life friend, i doubt the computer would be impressed and you could win easily, hardly fun against a computer.

These are things that I have done once, mostly I enjoy a longer game with massive war strategies. When playing with the same two-four people these little loop holes we have come across and we don't do them regularly.

More so thought it would be fun for a jab against opposition, generally if someone pulls something like this, we all go "you jerk" and start again. It's just little idiosyncracies of the game that once in a while someone discovers.

Its funny buying visibiltiy all the way around the world and have the guy youre playing cursing and cause he circumnavigated and doesn't know why he can't find out why or when someone else did it (when purchased with visibility no message pops up).

Not a real strategy just thigns we have stumbled upon.

Did anyone here know you could buy unlimited privateers, or nulify circumnavigation???
