Yes I am. I'm surrounded by all kinds of obvious and discrete advertising everyday. It'd be surprising if none of that got through, in some way or other.

Haha, good one Ram.

Of course I'm affected. Usually negatively however.

When I see some of the crap that fast-food and auto industry tries it sickens me. Trying to appeal to people's yearning for comfort, communion, power, freedom with their poor quality products.

I appreciate marketing though, when it's honest and if you strapped down the seller to a lie-detector set he would genuienely believe what he was saying.

I also like a beautifully designed site though. Like this one http://www.pacificacandles.com/. I recently bought about $50 worth of candles (for the free shipping of course) from them, partially because I wanted them and partially to see their packaging and quality of product. I also bought a candle making kit on eBay. I plan to perhaps get into this business because I figure I'd enjoy it & believe it is a good industry (normal candles are of paraffin which is a byproduct of the oil industry and very toxic to burn). Also, the profit margin is very high, even when using high quality wax and fragrences. :)

A small amount of advertising will make me more likely to purchase a product (If I'm aware it exists, I'm obviously more likely to get it, and presented with several indistinguishable products I may choose it over the others). Beyond that advertising may have some effect on my choice of purchases, but it will almost exclusively be negative. The content of an advert is highly unlikely to give me a postive attitude to a product, since I regard any information in them as highly suspect. It is however possible for an advert to be sufficiently tasteless, irritating or blatantly misleading to put me off a product (I can think of plenty of examples, including at least one product I was a long time user of which I abandoned specifically because of its advertising). I'm particularly put off by the utter rubbish which is frequently passed off as science in some commercials, and any adverts containing this will have a major negative effect.

The act of advertising can also irritate me, so it will always be worse than useless unless it is effectively neutral on intrusion. TV commercials for instance will never get a favourable response from me. Something relatively neutral, like a billboard that does not impinge on my activites, will not get a negative reaction directly, but similarly is also likely to be ignored.

Advertising makes me aware of a certain product and occasionaly I do desire it . Like wacthing Underworld Eveloution at Fourm Gold Class for example so I would say yes.

yes I most certainly am. an ad made badly, or with bad taste, or just otherwise looking awkward, I will likely not buy the product they're advertizing.

Bingo. Advertisements rarely convince me to try a product, but they frequently convince me NOT to buy a product.

For example, during my recent excursion into the used car market, Volkswagon pretty much shot down any chance of me ever buying one of their vehicles. The ad for Volkswagon ended with something like "to drive anything anything else would be dummkopf". Now, I hadn't really planned on buying a VW, but I certainly hadn't ruled it out either. However, since they called me stupid (as I was not driving a VW when I heard the ad), I immediately decided to absolutely not buy a VW...ever in my life.

In the classical sense, no.

In the realistic sense, yes, as mentioned earlier, some advertising creates a negative reaction, and I promise myself not to buy a label.

As I get older, advertising gets less and less effective. I sued to use advertisements to know the fast food specials, but now I avoid them.

When shopping, if next to generic, I pick generic, unless previous experience tells me one is better htan the other, (like Best Foods mayonaise, I have tried quite a few different brands, but from now on it's Best Foods (Hellmans on the East coast I think).

I used ot be. The strangest thing was it was some kind of thought process, that everybody was watching what I was buying, and would judge me. Now when I see people's carts full of name brand items, I judge... "watches too much tv"

I miss the days when crappy ads were only displayed during their breaks and not covering up and muting the damn program. Seeing the same commercial every break will make me hate the product and the others they sell.
I would prefer seeing ads all over the roads if that will reduce commercials on television.

Of course, I am!

There are probobly many products that I would've liked to purchased, but didn't because I didn't know the product existed.

clearly Perfection has no idea what he's talking about as he still has not updated Eat Poop You Cat
