After the Launch

:crazyeye: My production everywhere is so high that it would be a waste to build the work boat I need for my oil.

At least with the Buffy mod (and likely Bug/Bull mods), the maximum overflow is equal to the hammers of the current build item. I think that they patched this in v3.19 of BtS as well, but I'm not sure. So, if you're building a warrior (15H) and have 17H overflow, 15 hammers will overflow into the next build item and 2 hammers will be converted to gold. At least that's what I've read. I've never tested the exact amount of gold you get, but I have generate gold this way (i.e. 14/15H in a warrior and then whip + chop = 15H OF plus gold) when I needed the gold.

Sorry for the delay, real life is full of stress atm.

How much was international postage when you mailed it?

By the way, I didn't come back just to be a smart a$$. How is the game going? Is the setup too contrived or is it making for a fun scenario? Not looking for kudos but constructive feedback for future reference.

Oh yeah, there once was a time where you had to send actual sheets of paper if you wanted to contact someone. *shudder* How barbaric.

Well, it seems most players are preparing to capture some of those barbarian islands which makes for a nice source of conflict. As of yet the world is peaceful (except for that one ambush by oliver on Michkov) but who knows how long it will stay that way? As a matter of fact, I do, with my supercharged espionage-economy there is literally nothing on this map happening without me knowing, and suffice to say, some people´s future plans are highly predictable with four Marines and a Transport queued. ;)

I'm sure that those marines are the peaceful kind used to keep only local citizens in check.

I tried to set up a map where those that collaborated by sharing resources could get an advantage over those that did not. I also wanted to force some kind of conflict since a peaceful Space Race game could get quite boring, which was the purpose of the barb islands as you suggested.

I did not predict an early DOW. But the fact that I only gave you machine guns at the start (which can't attack) made at least a pillaging invasion quite simple to pull off. It would be hard to take a city with 2 MGs in it and plenty of pre-improved tiles to work, but you could pillage as much as you want, I guess. I gave MGs because I didn't want someone to take their starting units off island and sack another capital in the first few turns of the game.

Looking back, was giving MGs the right approach? Would it have been better to give everyone some Unique Unit of a civ that no one is playing (such as a Navy Seal if America weren't in the game) and just tell everyone that those starting UUs are not to leave the island but can do what they want on island? At least then, they could be used to offensively thwart an attack. Plus it would be easy to tell if anyone cheated by moving said UU off the island.

I think it's a good map and allows for different strategies as you indicated at the outset. New cities come at a cost as does an invasion force if you are that way inclined.
