Is this game any fun? Is it Civvish? Will I be disappointed since I already have Civ2? I believe it is ported to PS2 and was contemplating picking it up.

It has very little in common with civ. The AoE series are Real time strategies. They play much like the command and conquer series except the weaponry is alot more primitive. It is good fun to play. It is especially fun to build alot of Trebuchets and demolish your opponants base.

This game has been out for a while so you should be able to pick it up pretty cheap. There is also an expansion pack out.

Why play a PC game on the PS2? Try something more original... like Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid 2, GTA 3 etc. :D Or those fighting games. ;)

You need a mouse to play AOE properly, especially if you want to move units quick enough in the early stages. Its a good game and fun but its not like Civ.

Well, Civ2 for PS works really well and without a mouse... But Real TIme is different...

KD, I don't have a PC at home. I post from work when tis slow or I damn well feel like it. ;) And there is a serious lack of strategy games out on consoles which is one of my favorite game genres... Usually... :satan: My buddy has MGS2 and Devil May Cry, but I dunno...

A USB mouse and Keyboard may work with AOE on the PS2. I have a USB keyboard that I got with an Action Replay and it states in the manual that it may work with some games. I am not saying that it will definatly work, but there is a chance.

I didn't know AoE2 was on PS! Cool. It is a pretty good game.

I have AoE2, and also the AoE2 - The Conquerors expansion. I recommend the expansion, as AoE2 is more unbalanced in subtle ways that they fixed in the expansion.

You won'd be disappointed in AoE2 for the PC... but I do not know how it looks/works on the PS... so I can't say. It is a RTS, but they took a lot from Civ2 in the AoE2 game, as Shelley and others have said publically.

Decent game!

:)

Maybe we could arrange to play a couple of games of AOK some time. I used to be quite good but I haven't played it in quite a while.

I LOVE THIS GAME AOE2 it has great depth a variety of play options incredible multiplayer.... very much fun but if u are the type of person who likes to get really good at a game in the multiplayer community, be prepared to work for it on aoe2! the top players play the game from 5-10hrs a day and they have been doing that consistently for years to be the best at it... u must also be extremely fast moving with your mouse if you wish to get into the upper echelon of ageII players... so if you like to be able to sit and assess situations and take your time, but u want to be considered an expert, aoe2 is NOT for you! but it is an EXCELLLENT game in my expierience playing it 3-6 hrs a day solid for a year! it's just THAT addictive! for a TON of info on aoe2 go to www.mrfixitonline.com for the best strategies etc. u can find them all there! but i would HIGHLY reccomend this game and if u ever wanna play me anyone my MSN gaming zone nick is TsC_BlitzenDoG

If you play AOE 2 you MUST play multiplayer post-imperial age deathmatch. This can be done on the MSN Gaming Zone at www.zone.com. The Conquerors is optional. I don't like it because some of the new civs seem too powerful and this create a lot of imbalances.

The Conquerors definately balances the game more by destroying the dominace of heavy cavalry by introducing Halbieders (Or whatever they are called). I used to play on the Zone but I always started in the first age as its more of the game and early rushes are great when they work.

Once during a HUGE siege on my opponents castle I ended up with Joan of Arc and her honor gaurd of Knights getting pegged with five arbalest shots... They were standing in formation behind my lines overseeing the battle. Despite the loss of her I managed to break the castle walls and storm it with all of my troops. It was bloody indeed.

*I made a map and added all of the units in places that would make for a very interesting battle*

Anyone ever filled the screen with units and then started a battle? It can get quite laggy as it has to deal with lots of units.

I have.
4 Players, i had 120+ Paladins, while my partner was full of anything and everything on the battlefield, we were playing against Japanese and Brits i believe.
They both had some 80+ units each. My partner charged head on and got them to lock in battle, and i swept my 120+ Frank Paladins in around the sides and flanked them.
They were all dead with no place to run. After that it was all down hill :-D
Can u all post your Zone names?
Mine is MonK_SunTzu

However I have lost this account now because I haven't used it for several months now.

I personally like AOE2. I think it's a great game. Unfortunetly, I don't know where my cd is.

AOK2-TC is the best game ever.... 'nuff said

After CIVs... :D

Some things you need to know:

- Buy it to PC: mouse and keyboard really helps!
- It's not CIV, although it also as civilizations...
- It's much closer to warcraft 2 tahn to civ2!!!
- It's very cool, playable and addictive (but each game takes 1~4 hours, not 30 as in CIV

Go and get it... for the PC :)

AOE2 is definitely one of my favourite all time games.

Can't possibly say the same about any console version though, as having the keyboard and mouse of the PC makes it much quicker to select units, assign them to team numbers and issue commands than a controller ever could.

I actually think of it as being closer to Warcraft than C&C, and it definitely doesn't feel like Civ at all. Still a legendary game though.
