Anybody else excited about Age of Wonders II? I haven't played I yet but II looks great, from the beta demo available. For those not familiar, it is like a new Master of Magic. For those still unfamiliar, check out the site:

Age of Wonders II | The Wizard's Throne

Very much like a fantasty-world Civ game but you also get to fight your battles too! It should be coming out in a few weeks. Also, check out the E3 coverage for the game.

Aaawww my poor friend, seems you haven't ever played the first opus of AoW. Although it had cute graphics and interesting game concepts, its gameplay was terribly disappointing. Same for Lord of Magic. I think the day when Heroes will be forgotten has not arrived. Yet. Maybe Disciples... :)
Nevertheless I admit AoW II seem a bit more innovative than his predecessor.

Thanks, GenghisK. Your experience seems a bit familiar, since the only other person I know who played it said almost the same thing. I was also looking for some more AoW I feedback, cause I haven't played it. It does seem like an ambitious project, and the beta demo is tough to judge play balance.

Some nice features among others seem promising:
-12 playable races and then 7 magical forces to choose
- scenarios and scenario/game editor
- multiplayer
- multi-zoomable map

I remember MoM wasn't that balanced though. There were so many races and abilities available and with fighting your own battles, it's almost inevitable that a few units stand out as unbalanced. I see that potential here again & hope they have that well covered.

I also think that AoW was a bit dissapointing, but at least way better than Lords of Magic. I don't think I'll get AoW II, didn'T even bother to play the demo yet... I'll go straigt for MoO3 :)

Want a great challenging games? go for Disciple 1 and 2 (sacred lands and dark prophecy). Sometimes unbalanced but great too, for heroes fan (ok i admit nobody will never ever equal Heroes for its amazing balanced sides)
in discipled demons are really powerful and can swipe humans in one strike but it's challenging and.. fun :)

The original AoW was indeed somewhat of a letdown. I'd stick with MoM instead. :) Just didn't have the oomph factor.

As for AoW2, will see..... But with so many games out there, hard to grab my attention.

Well I'm getting it. Not eating any meat, smoking or drinking and actually working allows me to buy more than 1 game / 6 months.

:)

Excited about Age of Wonders II? Not quite the word, interested is more like it. I wasn't impressed with my little test drive of AoW I...weel, with very many games lately. Maybe I am finally growing up and leaving behind games....? Heck no! :D
