Monty's out of control, conquering and making a vassal of everyone; bar my only 'friend' Spain. He is 2% off getting a Domination win. I have to start a massive war to rein him in and keep the game alive. Me alone vs 6 civ's; Isabella will not get involved, traitor . .. .. .. .. .!
A prolonged exchange is occurring, I've brought back things from the brink and am clawing away at this monster. Nuking huge stacks coming at me; their territory is becoming a wasteland....

Then, the Spanish begin to place the odd unit in frontline enemy cities. I'm trying to tactical nuke the outrageous stacks they're building up on the front, but suddenly find I can't because I can't nuke 'friendly' people or territory!!!
The catch is, I don't want to go to war with Spain as well 'cause all my trade routes, resources and vital knowledge exchanges are down to her only; and I need all the trade to keep my civ afloat. War Weariness is crippling me (Monties WW is over 500 points/does'nt faze him), yet the infidels refuse to end the war: they run the U.N. which is compounding the problem. The Spainish are not moving those single units out of the enemy cities too!
Is this just lucky AI randomness, or is there something more sinister happening here? Like a devious programming war-script I have only just had the mischance to endure......:shifty::crazyeye::cry:

I'd say it is probably luck.
Can you get Isabella to cancel deals with Ramesses (I know you said she won't declare war)? That should boot and Spanish units out of Egyptian lands.

If you go to war with Spain, you do seem to have trade with Pericles and Caesar, though probably not as good as Spain (looking nice if you managed to knock out 3 civs).

How about your civic's have you switched to Nationhood which will help some with WW.

As for :nuke: of his area can you bribe the other person to cancel all trades especially open borders which will give you space to lob a :nuke: if not on the City direct then a square behind

Try switching to military police to help cope with the ww.

Military Police; 1 Turn of Anarchy can save you 15% or more on your war weariness

wow, brilliant! standing next to your friends lands to not be nuked, i am so jealous of you!

my tiding moments often come in the form of overcoming "AI Handicaps" and not good plays. (i mean if i could get the same handicaps... wait, i would be on settler mode, nevermind....)

I hope you find a way to win this one, i lost a similar situation earlier. Boadecia SOME FREAKIN HOW became a war machine and went from 1,400 in score to 2,100 in score (how the hell? i WAS on top with 1650) - and china went up to 1800's because he forced everyone but boadicia, me and wang kon to capitulate.

Wang was my friend, and would not go to war. Boadiccia had a very odd... almost like she used worldbuilder. then Mao just had to be stopped, so i DOW'd on china - after im at war i check wang one more time and now he is willing. within 6 turns, all of chinas vassals had left him, and i individually made peace with them all, and chipped off his border cities before peacing him and DOW'ing boadecia.

She had this setup of 2 islands, the second one became france on the first turn of the war. losing half her empire to make a colony, she is STILL over 600 points in the lead, and on the power graph is WAY above everyone else, like the second strongest guy on power graph Mao, is at about 60% of her. i whittle her down. Then it happened. China DOW'd me because i was weakened from the war. the very same turn, EVERYONE but boadeccia and Wang became Mao's vassal and sent me to extinction.

it was odd how bodeccia became a literal goddess, but how china waited for me to declare peace to re-capitulate everyone else and DOW me... wow.

@Kiwi Tyrant:

Mount Rushmore -25% WW
Jail -25% WW
Police State civic -50% WW

So you can run your wars with virtually no WW. :D

I've got Mt Rushmore, jails in all cities and am involved in a nearly thousand year war. The U.N resolutions have made U.Sufferage, Emancipation & Environmentalism compulsary. I am in Nationhood & Theocracy. Monty has everyone under his thumb and they wont play ball with me.
I originally played as the Inca to dabble with a Wonder/Specialist economy. Got my own 8 city island cut off by ocean.

When I realised the main continent was quickly going under complete Aztec control, I reacted to swing the tide, then panicked and went full-on war when I saw he was 2% away from a Domination win!

This was the situation before Monty vassalised the Romans, HRE, Koreans & Germans. He then wiped the Carthaginians and systematically continued on to the Chinese. Spain is a cowering mouse, and not at war with me because I give them oil to keep 'em viable.
I had to initially take out the Babylons to get a foothold on the continent. From there I began eating into Korea, which started a huge war against me. I kept the best cities and razed the rest, maintaining a 5+ tile gap so they could'nt Tactical Nuke my gains and waste my outnumbered stacks. Before the Aztecs got up their SDI I nuked all their oil resources and put fallout on them so they could'nt be fixed until Ecology (Monty's rapid sprawl had slowed his research enough for me to overtake late in game). It became a war of attrition which the human mind will always win, albeit initially far outnumbered. I know now that if that darn U.N. is built (and it looks like it's war to the bitter end) I'll just defy the resolutions and rumble on. Me giving in to the U.N aims just made it harder for me long term.
I was lucky I 'hate built' the Internet which gave me free knowledge while I boosted my gold to the max to rush build in my new front-line cities!

I have against all odds, turned the tide. The human mind will inevitably triumph again, on Emperor level too! :groucho: (I know, I'm still a noob)

*The Aztec's were just lucky that their capital started with corn, wheat and gold next to a floodplained river (their 2nd & 3rd cities got gold on river too)

*Took out the Korean capital, it had 4 GG's embedded in it! Built my West Point there; the rest is history....:coffee:

Random Personalities, or maybe Unrestricted Leaders? It of course could be a glitch. In my current game with Hannibal in the game the event log mentioned one of my cities as "Carthage." That wouldn't be a problem, but I never had a city called Carthage; I name all of them myself.

Sorry, my stuff up. I always play random personalities, so I don't know how the AI will play at the start. Rammy played Monty's style so hard I just got only his foul image in my head!
