AI builds bases within my borders

Hi :)

How can I stop this? When I build a base in AI borders, "war were declaired". If they do it to me, they can avoid all negative consequences. Last game I played, I lost a bunch of good resources to AI bases built right in the heart of my territory. These resources were being worked by a base within two squares of them.

As an experiment, I built another base nearby, in land that had been mine before the offending AI base arrived, and bingo, war.

Seems to be one rule for the AI, and a different rule for players. Any AI building a base on my land should constitute an act of war. If not, I have to declare war instead, and then I am seen by the game as the aggressor.

So how do I stop the AI from ignoring my borders?

I've never seen the AI build a base within my borders, unless we were in vendetta. However, they will move a colony pod through your territory and then plunk down a base on a square that is not part of your territory (even if all surrounding squares are within your territory). Pactmates are especially prone to acting this way. If the Colony Pod enters your territory you can try requesting withdrawal.

If the AI really is building bases inside your territory without being in vendetta, then I'd consider that a bug. Is your game fully patched?

Yes, patched to the latest version 4. I'm talking about territory and not base radius (aka the fat X). Territory is shown by default as a dotted line, base radius has to be turned on in the options screen, and are displayed as a solid red line.

Also, from playing years ago I know about the islands thing you are referring to. I build my bases close enough together (3 or 4 squares) so that I don't tend to leave islands anyhow.

The problem has only ever surfaced with the Hive faction. They seem to be very aggressive with base building and completely ignore territorial borders. Anyway, I deleted all game files, reinstalled from CD, and repatched. I haven't seen this occur again, although I haven't started next to the Hive since.

Interestingly, I then went on to do some more experimentation.

I found that you can build your own bases within AI territory, so long as you haven't got thier commlink frequency yet. It doesn't constitute a hostile act either :p That wasn't how Yang was doing it, however, as he did have my commlink by then.

I had this issue in particular with the Drones - They literally circled around one of my cities with 3 outposts reducing the "fat X" tiles considerably...

I'll try uninstall/reinstall and see if it works, although I'm not convinced - It started happening when I installed AX, which was yesterday.
