AI civ has same number of converted cities as me

Hello

I am going for a Religious Victory and I've just noticed that one of the AI civs always has the exact same number of converted cities as me. He is not the originator of one of the world's religions, so does he have the same number as me because I have fully converted him and he is being considered as having the same religion as me?

Yes.

But as the originator of the religion the religious victory (if it comes to pass) goes to you. So that civ is basically helping you at this point.
