i really hate it when i random my ai opponent, and 1 of them is venice. is there somehow i can completely disable venice in random roll as random opponent?

Yea, Enrico need twicks, to make AI pick Authority Venice. Cause Enrico can faster conquer CS with archers(before mathematics).

Honestly, the only real solution to this is removing Venice from the game, or completely reworking Venice's inability to settle cities. The civ is just way too unique for the AI to deal with, and it seems unreasonable to ask AI programmers to try and fix that given how little it actually affect the game and how much work it is.

Actually I remember a GREAT mod that basically gave them 3 cities they can found. Something like that would make them a real threat.

I already do this for my personalized mod which creates them Malamocco and Eraclea (Former capitals of the Venetian Republic) and gives Venice a presence in giving them powerful Guild nations that could pose a threat to most nations.

yeah actually that's actually cool if I could do something for European powers for ynaemp either using civ 4 leader traits (adding a new trait for European powers) or figure out how to mod mod so I could add something that makes European civs viable in ynaemp. (I guess I could increase the tech per city cost) I know you in UK but man, I;m so sick of running civ 5 and always never having a chance to see a game where using domination only Freedom was adopted ( I'd always rather choose the order tenets but that's me man) and a challenge. It be so fudgin easy all you have to do is give European powers for civ 4 a new trait basically all of the others but to a lesser degree. like +75 trait gp, promotions from naval, +15% reduction in costs of military units, +2 gold per city, +1 science per 6, +1 culture per city (basically everything halved and list it as imperialistic power) the civ 5 ai would have to compute even with all the mods it get I+150 Gp generation or the other way +50 but +80 percent unit cost decrease ohhh goodness you could have an actual WWII that'd be challenging something to wow about.

Agreed. Each time I spawn next to Venice I don't have to worry about settling near him. Not exactly balanced.

Venice has easy puppets, and extra gold that can be used to conquer a few more cities if needed. The gold can be used to speed up production in puppets, I believe.
It could be argued that AI can't manage Venice properly. I'm not sure, Venice use to stand in my games when I'm not his neighbor. I've never seen it running away, though. I remember an old balance thread where the highest complaint was military cap.

The thing about Venice was the 3 Guilds Change which forces two guilds in puppet cities that may not even take specialists. While also not proving to be a menace since they only have one factor of unit production which is their capital while everything else is just Gold-Bought.

Actually think the thing is just that the AI can't handle Venice properly. The civ does great in human hands but as soon as it shows up as an AI in a game it ends up screwing the game over somehow (either by being eliminated or just by leaving room to an expansive neighbor that runs over the world)

I dunno Venice does fine in most games.

Venice is a really good civ to start next to, just because less pressure to settle quickly, but he is pretty aggressive and usually the tech leader in my games.

Huh, I'm sorta biased because Venice is my favorite civ to play, but the fact is I essentially never see them crushed by another AI. They always get a bunch of wonders and possibly the tech lead in my games. There absolutely is the open space for another's benefit issue, but Venice themselves is basically always fine.

I wonder if difficulty level plays a role on how Venice does? I feel like Venice should do worse comparatively to other AIs on higher difficulties, but I haven't tested it or done the math.

G, you run a lot of AI tests right? Mind testing Venice AI on Deity and seeing how it does there? Also is it possible for me to do that myself, and if so mind linking me to a tutorial? I'd be happy to help test.

Pretty easy. Download the Civ 5 SDK. Open the fire tuner. Enable fire tuner link in your config.ini. Open Civ. Start a game with deity settings and once started go to the players tab of the fire tuner and turn on auto play.

Should I pick a civ, and would that civ not get the AI bonuses?
