I am not understanding that the AI has a lot of Cities in far away reagion - even in the middle of my empire - when I have problems with happiness and money with half of the cities.
Next problem is, that they are runnign around with rifleman when I even do not have gunpowder.
I am playing on Prince level (4)...

I don't like cheting AI's :(

Any experiences?

1) Declare war
2) Puppet every city you can get, or raze useless ones
3) Enjoy your 1000 score while the AI is racking up 500 at best.

I think this is the wrong forum, try putting this in General Discussion, unless you want to mod the game to change it, which is impossible because source isn't available and I don't think LUA or XML defines AI "cheats".

DO you have installed any mods? I do not understand that the AI is cheating on prince...

According to the developers, the AI does not cheat. It does get discounts and units, and it does make bizarre decisions, but it isn't allowed to break the game rules or ignore them.

As for running around with rifleman, thanks to goody huts, that's entirely possible...

Hi,

I am not sure, but they have so many cities (how to do it with hapiness and money?) when I am struggeling with 1/3 less and more luxuries as eg. the Russians or Americans.
They are building cities in the middle of nowhere, completely cut off from the rest of their empire.

Yes, goody - huts are somewhere a problem - I am using a MOD that should prevent that...

It's ok - I like the defensiv fighting with crossbowman/longswordman against musketman and rifleman - but it's something I do not understand - even when I am ranked not so far behind or higher ;).

Anyhow, would like to exchange experiences with that AI behaviour ;)

The problem is most likely that the AI, because of their increased number of cities, have a much larger science output than you, which has allowed them to have a more advanced military. If the player does not expand enough, the AI will overtake and become quite a powerhouse, in spite of the AI behaviour being modelled on former president Bush Jr.

You need to keep in mind that there are no distance penalties anymore. So, it is preferable to build an ideal city far away than a marginal one up close. If the AI builds alot of happiness buildings, they can support more cities. Happiness is now empire wide, so a Colosseum can support population in small colonies, not just the city in which it is buildt. More population means more science.

I read on another thread that since the patch the AI gets a 15% discount to unit maintenance on Prince difficulty, i did'nt see it in the patch notes though so not sure if it's correct.

Some of the apparent "cheats" in the handicap xml don't actually do anything. Would be nice if someone documented these.

AIs really seem to ignore happiness altogether OR they have an enormous bonus varying with difficulty level. They do ICS with gorgeously big cities on Emperor diff at least.

Gwydion62 : If you're struggling on prince for your developpment, you should seek to engage in early wars so as to gain an advantage in n° of well situated cities. (hunt out cities with luxuries and/or strategic resources) The AI is completely clumsy on the attack, so set up a good defense position, crush their military and then proceed to puppeteer/annex the cities you choosed.

As for development, just build a library in a city, and set up two scientist specialists. It will pump enougth great scientists over the course of the game to keep you in the tech race. (on Prince)
