AI wars when a rival is going to win

I've read in some threads that an AI doesn't try anything to stop a rival when the rival is close to a cultural victory.
I'd like to see an AI start a total war (go in WARPLAN_PREPARING_TOTAL) as he realizes that a rival is a certain amount of turns close to a cultural/space/time victory.
If anything like that has been implemented yet in a mod, I'm going to do that.

Civilization differs from most games in that the AI players aren't always competing for victory. They can compete, be neutral to your attempts or help you achieve victory. Its an interesting design that few games offer.

So I believe you are right that the AI doesn't declare total war to stop other players from winning, but thats part of the design. To allow for non-military victory conditions. If every victory condition pitted you in war with the rest of the planet then they would allow require some sort of military dominence.

Im not arguing with your decision to include that option. Thats exactly whats awesome about modding. Just proving a little design feedback from one guys perspective. I do think that including a "prevent victory" ai option where the ai players all dogpile any player who is about to win would be fun to try out.
