The odds are clearly not with me, but I see no other choice. I can only pray... whatever.

Does this line mean the AI was bribed into war? There's alot of chatter about the AI attacking for no good reason, I'm wondering if they are bribing each other more post patch.

Yes I believe they do, I was actually wondering this myself. Can someone confirm?

I think this line means that the AI feels that, if they don't try to stop you know, they will lose. So all AIs that haven't DoFed you will sooner or later DoW you, just because they will lose if they don't; granted, they will lose if they do too, but that's another subject.

Although the AI might bribe other AI into war, that message means that they're attacking you because you have a better military and they perceive you to be a threat to them.

I've seen another theory. Each civ has a setting for what's called 'boldness', and this could also explain this 'The odds are not with me' line.

There's certainly a lot of random attacking happening, but not a lot of evidence of pacts. Sometimes civs just seem to be in warmonger mode, just moving from one war to the other.
An AI civ will knock on your door every now and then to ask if you're interested in starting a war against so-and-so, but no AI has ever offered me anything for it. That doesn't mean the AI couldn't do it amongst each other, but I have my doubts.

It would certainly be interesting to find out more about the inner workings of the AI, but AI-AI diplomacy is one of the toughest things to test.

I strongly assume that the AI bribes each other into war. But as Optional stated, how can you know for sure?

I'm fine with CiV diplomacy beeing without readable numbers. But if there is some obvious effect (as a declaration of war), I would prefer to know, WHY this happend.

We get some information now about backstabbing. I recomend something equal for beeing bribed into the war. The leader could state something like: "A 'common friend' convinced me to declare war on you. Let history evaluate the outcome!"

If we can keep track of AI decissions, diplomacy will *feel* less "broken". (I don't think it is!)

Those times you get two AI's declaring at the same time ... I think that's an AI bribing another into war, myself. Usually when that happens, I only see an attack from one of the AIs before peace is declared with the other.

But why would an AI let itself be bribed into a self-destructive war? I was at war with the Aztecs, and the Songhai declared war on me right after that. I was playing with Germany, so I could churn out a Landschnekt every 2 turns. I soon had more soldiers than both of them combined. I took out the Aztecs first, and Songhai later.
