Gun control laws are a question of having any kind of gun or not having them, that's the wrong analogy. The only difference Kalashnikov introduced to the world is that people are killing each other in another way. In this case it didn't even significantly raise the amount of people killed in wars.
If anything should rot in hell it's the demographic rise, centralization of states and the industrial revolution. Those transformed wars from minor conflicts between a few tens of thousands men to massive multi million slaughters.

To stick the blame on him is ridiculous in any case. The weapon was designed and fine tuned by dozens of other engineers and soldiers. Soviet propaganda only made him look like the sole actor that dreamed up everything because people like one-man-army heroes/inventors/whatever.
