AK2a - WWII - Pacific -?

Did I say spt? I meant fpt (food per turn.) 12 citizens, 2 food consumed by each one. We have lots of excess there, and my goal was to get less excess and focus that on shields (it can't grow past 12 because we mobilized for war and can't sign peace, and no hospitals under war mobilization.)

Pre-flight check:
Nothing much to change.

IBT
Our damaged Medium tank and Engineer are killed.
1
Killed a Japanese guerilla, retreat forces at Hankow.
IBT
Japanese kill our infantry at Nanking.
2
Move up our new Medium armors and old engineers to Kaifeng.
IBT
Nothing much.
3
Clean up a Japanese medium tank near Hankow, nothing else yet.
4
Last turn before we strike at Kaifeng.
IBT
Lose one engie and one medium armor.
5
Here goes nothing, assault at Kaifeng underway:
We kill a Japanese guerilla SW of Kaifeng.
Medium armor attacks and gets killed :(.
Medium armor also gets killed doing no damage at all!
Engineer kills the 6th Jap army unscathed, go figure!
Medium armor kills an engie N of Kaifeng.
Engineer kill a regular Nipponese infantry.

Our cities are steadily pumping out medium armors and the Japanese seem to have lost their edge. Unfortunately we have only 18 turns left to clobber them.

This is going to get interesting with the turns, considering that 18 turns are left, which is about one more trip in the roster. Perhaps we should lure Japanese units in our territory (with workers? I don't know) and kill them. Attacking cities is good but it's hard to grab lots of them quickly in the position we are in right now. Hopefully we'll bounce back in the last 18 turns.

sorry there was an idiot parts sale on e-bay...

our VP 25500, Japan 26095

preflight I spend money like Bede. We finally have enough forces to go on the offensive.
8/44 - take Kaifeng
9/44 - zzz
10/44 - take peking
11/44 - zzz
12/44 - positioning
1/45 - decide to play six since there's only 3 of us. Finally get a GL om the assault on Mukden. Take Mukden. Take Hanoi and get another GL! We go all game without a GL and then get two in one turn? :crazyeye:

VP: 34110
Japan 29790

go get 'em. use the cash. nothing to save or trade it for now.

 Things are getting better! 6 turns each, so that if we don't win by turn 50 (and it looks like we will) it'll end on the last turn of whoever is up.

Got it.

Preturn- Good.
IBT- America builds Manhattan Project. Wonder if I'll get to see some atomic bombs.
1
Hanoi captured.
ak2amglfeb.jpg

IBT- Hanoi retaken with my tanks near it.
2
I lose a little tank battle at Hanoi. The Japanese can keep it... until our new tank army attacks them.
IBT- Nothing
3
Hsinking captured.
IBT-Lose spices.
4
Capture Harbin.
IBT- We win! 7 hours, 16 minutes, and 9 seconds on June of 1945 AD with 3847 gold gaining 414 gold per turn. Something like 40200 VP at the end for us, 36400 for Japan.

Good game! We need to do another one of these :) . USA, Netherlands? Tried Japan on Sid and I'm very close to the end, about 5000 VP ahead of the Allies, so maybe something more difficult than Sid as Japan? Just throwing out some ideas.

Aargh no! Why do the succession games I play in always seem to end before I get the chance to play with the armies? Oh well, good game guys.

I'm all for another round of a war scenario. I know I could use the practice, but on Sid difficulty? That sounds a bit too much for me, I'm just a monarch player, emperor if I'm lucky.

@AK: Yeah, we'll probably want to finish up some games first.
@Keiji: Japan is surprisingly easy, you start with an army and have a pretty big starting advantage if played correctly. I'm at about your level, too, but I am having little difficulty so far as Japan. Edit: And the AIs don't get the insane amounts of free units, either. If we were to do USA or Netherlands probably around the Emperor area.

Looking forward to AK2b!

Rats, how could I miss this one! Now Viper is beating me in AK games :)

IMHO playing as the Netherlands should be most challenging. There is no mainland and no safe, productive core. I just played solo as the USA and it was too easy... I mobilized on turn 0 (when no troops can be moved) and drafted infantry everywhere I could. The newly drafted infantry CAN MOVE, so I just fortified them in the cities Japan was most likely to attack. Result? They took one city in the entire game.

Another thing I noticed has to do with fighters and bombers. Sending bombers to attack units in range of enemy airbases and cities is a waste of shields. But if you lead the attack with your fighters, they ferret out all the enemy fighters, giving the bomber fleet a free ride. The fighters will even win some of the dogfights. With fighter-bombers it's even easier, because those guys will actually win dogfights most of the time. So at the beginning of the game, I only build fighters/fb's and machine guns, drafting infantry here and there. The emphasis on defense takes the wind out of the enemy very quickly.

Another fun thing to do is take the first HP off a ship with a fighter or a destroyer bombard. A subsequent bomber run will sink it. Much more effective than two bomber runs, since now you can use N bombers to sink up to N ships per turn instead of N/2 ships per turn.

Play US or Japan first. If RL and other games get caught up, I'll mod up the Netherlands and see what we can do. I'm busy right now getting Linebacker going and driving in circles from event to event.

Now that I think about it I don't think I have missed even one. I hope I'm not bugging him ;) . But don't worry danz, you'll catch up  .
I think I'll test out the Netherlands at some point to see if they're very playable. Danz had an interesting point on the USA with drafting infantry and immediately guarding cities. Time to dig up old posts from this thread (it's a pretty short thread!) Someone suggested Emperor on China (which we did), Deity USA, Japan too easy.On Japan, I think the AIs are catching up, we're about equal in VP now and my territory is covered in units to kill. Very fun, and getting more difficult. Edit: Finished, lost by 2000 VP. The last few turns are quite challenging. Edit2: Won as Japan on Sid long ago, just for the record.
