Alagaesia TC

Hello everyone I've been grounded so development has hit a bit of a stump, only the civics lshockley has been working on have been moving forward. And until I can mod I've been brain storming and and looking for ideas. Below are a few of them.

Apprenticeship:
Apprentice units are spawned which upgrade after a few turns to a regular combat units. The larger and more cultured a city the more likely it is to produce an apprentice.

Natural Wonder:
Civilization specific wonders will be spawned that provide a boost to the hosting nation and spawn with a unit or as a resource that will allow that city to produce a unit no other city can produce.

These are just two of my ideas and I'm interested in hearing some feedback for them and getting some ideas from the community.

Hey Classic!

Building onto your apprenticeship idea, how about if an "Apprentice Shop" building is present in the city, it increases the chance of spawning an apprentice by +25%. And, if you're running the Education / Apprenticeship civic, apprentice spawning civ-wide is +25%. (For a total maximum Apprentice boost of +50%).

How are you planning to work the Apprentice? Maybe it could work sort of like a new great person, Great Apprentice? It's functions could be 1) to transform into a unit of choice (with promotions?), 2) to join the city adding more Great Apprentice points, or 3) to build a portion of a Great Apprentice building (maybe it would take 3 apprentices to complete construction). The special building could improve commerce, culture, and great people birth rate in the city.

Just ideas... what do you think? -Laina

I was thinking about copying the great person set up only instead of great people points you get apprentice points. Of course for each apprentice you would need more points than the last time you go one. Hopefully I could actually make a bar that showed the progress. Also building would spawn apprentice points. A barracks could add points into a apprentice warrior. A mage guild add points per turn to an apprentice mage, and so forth and so on for each type of fight class (mele, ranged, magic). I was also thinking of setting it up so that if you get 3-4 of them you could create a civilization hero unit that wouldn't be obtainable any way else.

Just some ideas, of course I need to get ungrounded first. Which will take at least an 80% on my calculus test. So hopefully if all goes well I can work some more on this by the weekend.

Civics Update:

You have lshockley to thank for this, buttons and civics. And I have to thank her for working on the mod while I was grounded. However, I'm back in action with a new laptop I'm itching to use ;), so expect an update on leaders and new civilizations soon.

Hey Classic! Everything is in the right place - it looks great! Now that I'm looking at the borders more closely, mine look a little strange. I'll see what I can do about that and email you.

Good I'm glad I set everything up correctly. And about the boarders I believe that they might be slightly transparent. At least thats all I can think of. But anyways it turned out great.

Been working on units and here's a teaser, the Firemage a great unit by Rabbit, White. I'll post a bit about the civilizations in the next few days.

The screen doesn't really do the flying fireballs justice. I also intend to make the flame on the back of the cape team colored, but here's a bit of wizardry for you.

Nice teaser!! I just finished fixing the button borders. I don't know what I did to them last time, but I tried converting them again, and it worked fine. ??? I just sent them to you via email.

Also, I'll be getting started on diplomacy text shortly... any suggestions are welcome!

-Laina

Okay thanks. I just uploaded the updated civics picture in my last post and in the main post and the button boarders look normal.

The civic button borders looks much better. Thanks for re-posting the screen shot for me!

Did you make those magicians yourself? They're very nice! -L

No rabbit white made mages. I have a little 3D talent but not that much. Added enough units for today I'll move on to buildings. Anyways added a inn in, you know one of the old types :beer:.

Aah! This looks to be a very promising mod. But may I make a suggestion on the civics?

Perhaps for religion civics you could put something like "Religious Apathy" instead of the Paganism, or have Paganism actually *do* something. After all, the elves are noted for their faith (or lack thereof) and how it has little impact on anything.

Plus, perhaps some civic (category, I do not know) having to do with a complicated and elaborate social system (like the elves have), with some pretty OK benefits in terms of happiness or something, but with high upkeep.

I think the civic system certainly needs something done to it to give it an Alagaesian sentiment. Nonetheless, I commend your dedication. Good luck!

Thanks guys.

@Crezth

The base civics you see aren't final. The early releases of this mod will see limited well "uniqueness" for the different civilization types. For the elves I was think a religion called "Enlightened Atheism" and for morals adding in elves' crazy manners system. Can't think of a name though. Any suggestions?

@strategyonly
I'll keep that in mind but I don't think I'll need to as you have just about everything covered in that map. However, after I get a version out I'll contact you about possible making a scenario pack if you interested.

@strategyonly
Thanks!

Now for something I want to ask.
Dryad or No Dryad??
Or Ent or what ever I should call this thing.

See this fine fellow.

I was thinking that he would be a fine addition as an Elf becoming a tree or vice versa. You know like during the elves' blood-oath celebration. Now I know there are not any cases that I know of in which the elves transform into plants but I though it would go nicely under the alteration tech. I was just wondering what you guys thought and was hoping for a good name as Ent is LOTR and Dryad are usually spirits.
