Ale

Based on these comical monks who drink spirits in industrial qualities?

Hehe, well, some of the best beer is Belgian trappist-beer which originates from the monasteries ;)

St. Bernardus

Elohim Hero - Monk

2 moves
Starts with: channeling 1, spirit 1 (courage), beer goggles (can't attack female unit models: courtesan, mobius witch...)
+1 Ale affinity

Background: Quiet monk drinking beer in tavern...nasty robbers burst in...everyone running scared...calmly finishes glass of dark red ale...kicks everybody's ass...legend of the drunk monk is born.

Why not make dwarf promotion give ale affinity instead? You'd absolutely want to prevent them from getting their hands on the stuff.

As a Lutheran seminary student, I can absolutely affirm that drinking and brewing beer is a proud part of the reformation-age monastic tradition. Luther had his own brewery, and many of us follow in his footsteps.

So I'd say there's at least -some- grounding in reality for that part. ;)

As a Catholic I say you should burn!

Hahah just kidding: As a profane I will burn you anyway! :crazyeye:

"Our sages have gazed into the reflecting water and saw that once upon a time the greatest drunkard shall rescue our country. They demand you to start efforts to find him, therewith the prophecy shall be fulfilled.
1.) I think those "sages" have drunken to much ale themselves. They shall regain their wisdom by an ascetic life in one of our monasteries. (Nothing happens/ 50% chance of +1 research if you play ff)
2.) Perhaps it is me who is predestined to be the greatest drunkard. I will obey the duties my land demands from me. --> gain trait "Drunk". With this trait you have a 20% chance to be AI controlled (You had a blackout by drinking to much). But you also have a 5% chance to gain any trait you want, but if this happens you lose the Drunk trait.
3.) (Requires 5 ale resources) The whole country be it man, woman or child will be obliged to drink at least half a gallon of ale the day by law. The law shall last 15 years after that we will see who is still standing. (15 turns of Anarchy: After the 15 turns lose one ale resource and gain an ADVENTURER WITH HERO and ale affinity.)"

In fact, commercial brewing was started in high middle ages by catholic monks, who paid part of their taxes in ale. Before, there was only a local brewing, sometimes just for the house needs.
That is why I put Dreptus at monasticism in Orbis (in case anyone wondered why...)

So, the whole idea is quite good, contrary what you can think at first...
But I think the OP wanted drunken boxing in, am I right? ;)

Actually, an event that gives a unit with ale affinity could be fun, if it isn't too powerful. Then one great question remains: will it be a monk, a dwarf, or both?

I think that the only prerequisite should be having the brewery and still having the ale, though, otherwise it will never happen.

Other idea: whenever a player has more Ale than you, the unit becomes his :)

A dwarf monk.... just like NwN 2.

If anyone gets what I'm talking about....

Ale affinity - it must also give the unit 5-10% chance to miss it target and move to the next tile instead (the more ale you drink, the higher are the chances that the next step is not where you want it to be). Courtesan get a bonus against Ale affinity cause of the beer goggles.
