Alien Crossfire Demo found

I was curious about how much Alien Crossfire cost buying used on the Internet (I am one of the lucky ones who owns a copy). During my search I found the demo of it, which is no longer on Fraxis's website or FTP server. So if you don't want to shell out the big bucks for a used copy, but still want to tempt yourself, you can dowload it at:

Just a question. Why would anybody get it? It can't be any better than the original.

Well, I suppose it can be good with a change, when you get sick of beating the cr*p out of yang, deirdre, morgan, and the rest of the guys...

Its not that its any better. It is the same game after all. But it adds new armor types, and improvments, abilities, and such. It gives a new dimension to the game. The three biggest points I like are resonance armor (+25% defense vs. Psi), the cloudbase acadamy (airbase in every city *Though I think this is an overpowered secret project*), and the ability to probe people with the Hunter-killer algorithm (its no longer the end-all be-all secret project).

Does it start Mission year 2100 as well? Coz that wouldn't be cool..

No no it doest somthing like 2400 I think.. It has a somewhat "solid" (as much as you can call aliens coming down and attacking everything solid) background story. All of the original factions are out of the way, and new ones have emerged to start a new global civil war...

Nope, it does start in 2100. The Aliens don't arrive until 2107, though.

Not to give anything away, but both the new fractions and the aliens fit in, IMO. And you can always pick at the setup who the contesters for planetary domination are - if you don't like the new ones, just pick them and you still can enjoy the new stuff (including a landmark that gives +1 to your planet rating).

As I've only recently started playing SMAC (though I had it for a long time , did'nt know what I was missing) , I checked for expansion packs . Why is Alien Crossfire not available anymore ?
