All you base are belong to us

Doesn't scorch use something like this in his sig? I just thought his grammar had been knocked out by his copious amounts of weed...:crazyeye:

Maybe it's an American thing.

PH76 knows all about it; along with many others.

It comes originally from a badly translated Japanese console game. ;) Being a classic ever since.

In fact, I think there's a thread or a few about it; in the Humor section. :)

Cheers, knew it must've meant something to make it all the way into CivIII.

I know a little :)

It's from an asian game, made sometime in dawn of computers.

When they converted the game into English, the translation was rather shabby. As I understand it - They translated every word seperately and directly, without concern for coherence.

I have a Link to a site where you can see it for yourself, only I don't remember it, and I'm at work right now. If you check this tread later (8-10 hours from now) I will include the link.

:) I saw that phrase drawn in the dust on a window at uni. I was confused for a long time.
PS i don't think they've cleaned the window either.

Yes, from the old computer game, and now it's supposed to be a witty and humorous way for all the oneline hacker hipsters to make fun of Microsoft and the "corporate agenda." At least, that's the spin that a somewhat leftist fellow put on it in a recent book called "Free as in Speech and Beer."

You can edit out this juvenile stupidity in the Diplomatic text file. Just go to it, use the Find function for "belong", and make your changes.

Would constantly complaining about a game also be considered juvenile?

I fail to see why they attribute this to current big business unless they are making the connection of not doing enough R&D to give a good enough value in a product to the consumer.

How is a shabby translation of some pice of **** adventure-role-playing game so funny? All your base are belong to us? Are your lives too deprived of laughter that anything becomes funny? I don't understand the comedy, please explain.

So much for the high level of Firaxian "humor".

It's as dumb, dated, and juvenile as using "groovy" over a decade ago.

What makes it funny (IMHO) is that it's an enormously foolish inside joke amongst a small group of people that attained near mainstream status, in much the same way that "Andre the Giant Has a Posse" did. (http://www.obeygiant.com/bootleg-01.html)

If you still aren't convinced, give this a look:

Monty Python it isn't, but it's amusing to me nonetheless.

'All your base are belong to us' is a phrase that shows up frequently on hacked sites. Never encounterd it in civ3 though. A pity. I've edited civ2 in the past for some more humorous advisory in the past, there must be some thread here at CFC somewhere... There should be more of this "juvenile" humor in it.

By the way, many people don't get the humor of Monty Python anyway. (Eggs, bacon and spam?)
