I kept getting a server error when trying to post. Anyhow here is the original topic:

Im playing a game(PTW) on the second difficulty level as the Vikings, and I declared war on the Celts about 10 turns ago. A few turns after the beginning of the war I was able to pay the Japanese and Ghandi to be my ally, both are "grateful" and declared war on the Celts. To this point I have been fighting the losing battle, by my self. And both the Indians and Japanese claim to be helping, even to thanking me for "HELPING THEM" fight their war! How can I force them, or persuade them to join in the actual combat?

I believe that nothing can be done to "force or persuade" them to actually do the combats. You can buy them to declare war on your enemy, and anything beyond that is out of your control, though the good thing is that most of the time your ally do what they promise.

It is possible that your ally's armies have to go a long way before reaching the battlefield. If Japan and India are fairly far from the Vikings and you're fighting an ancient war (without railroads and ROPs), it may take a while for you to see the combat. :)

The Japanese actually had troops in Celtic territory when the battle began, albeit with a setler. Also, all four of us are on the same continent, which isn't very large, and the japs are very close to the Celts, with the Indians on the other side of the japs.

sorry about the previos post please delete mods.

Back to your question, they might be but you can not tell as you do not have a updated map apart from that i am not sure how you can make them take a more active role in the war.

I didn't see a way to do it, but I was really hoping somebody knew something I didn't. Thanks for the responses.
