Hey all this my seem obvious but I thought I'd share anyway. When most of use get nukes we think who to blow up first right?
Well, instead of rushing off into nuclear war save them for rushing wonders, if your a little bit behind on teck and you realy want that SMD system disband some nukes in the cities where your building it and BOOM before you know it your able to rain you remaining nukes down on your enemies almost care free. So, what do you all think about this?

You can't rush wonders with anything other than a great leader. You can, however, use the ICBM to prebuild a wonder, and switch over to the new wonder when it becomes available. Is this, perhaps, what you are talking about?

Another thing nukes are good for is taking out enemy resources. Nuke the tile that has them, and suddenly they don't get any more resources. Of course, this doesn't fix the fact that they finish what's already being built, or been built, but it does prevent future units/improvements until they hook the resource back up.

uh... Nope.... Padma.... Never worked that way for me...

That's not what I've experienced, Padma. I've prebuilt Wonders using everything from Cathedrals to military units to small wonders.

I think he means disbanding nukes in the city to gain shields.

Right, or cutting down trees, or rushing a non-wonder building then trying to switch over.

The moment you cut down a forest, rush a non-wonder building, or disband a unit, that city becomes disqualified from wonders. It kinda sux, as I used to rush wonders in Civ2. But It does balance it a bit more, I think, and makes me a bit more concious of what the AI is doing.

Right, there's a difference between gaining "rushed shields" and prebuilding shields. You cannot apply any rushed shields towards the building of a Wonder, but you can prebuild anything in preparation for a Wonder. On the games in which I set out to build all of the Wonders (easily possible on Regent level ;) ), I typically have three or four cities prebuilding soon-to-be-discovered Wonders at the same time.

Personally, I was disappointed by Civ3's decision to allow 100% conversion of shields between building projects. It doesn't really make any sense; what does building a Cathedral have to do with "building" the Theory of Evolution? But, I take full advantage of it, so I guess I shouldn't be complaining. :p
