I am playing Civ4 with the 1.09 patch.

I started a customised game where the victory conditions were Conquest and Diplomacy.
After discovering industrialism I did not find any aluminium deposits!
At first I thought this was just my position on the map but after taking over nearly half of it I still didnt find any.
I also thought it may be because the other nations hadnt reached that tech so if it was on thier land I wasnt able to trade it with them but they had that technology..
<Edit Add> Infact I may have even traded the industrialism tech!
This leads me to think that turning off the Space Race victory condition has disabled the discovery of aluminium deposits.. <edit add> Or trading for the tech hasnt enabled aluminium

A problem when you want to build Modern Armour :(

Anyone else found this? I dont really want to sit through another +15h to verify my find.
I find it quite hard to believe noone has encountered this bug when Space race victory has been disabled! Am I unlucky in my choice of victory conditions to have caused this..

Disabling space race and rarity of aluminum are unrelated. If you don't want to spend the 15h, you can reveal the entire map either via World Builder or by researching Satellites.

CivDude86 thank you for the astute question. I am not playing 1.09 which is the download I took from a site before I realised the option was available to update from within the game.
I am playing version 1.6.1 which is the latest build.

Crunch I am on Future Tech. I can see the resources across the whole map.
Aluminium is not on the map atall. I will try the world builder to have a look around though, that may shed some light. Thank you for the suggestion.

This is deff a valid bug.

I have played a multiplayer game where there were no horses anywhere on the map...just my luck too as i was Spain (no Conquistadors!!). I have also played a single player game were there was no coal. I attribute it to bad luck...i wouldn't call it a bug.

It probably depends on map type...for example if you play on a small, tropical map with high sea level, there might be very few mountains and thus few possibilities for alum to appear.

BTW playing with Warlords 2.08

Well, no amy Clay in a whole word?? :)

Turning off space victory does not dissable aluminium.

Consider it a flavor game, no one can build aluminium depended units.

One might consider it a plesant surprise which add additional challenge to the game. It is definatly not a bug in any way.
