Ambusher bug

I have a bug (I think) with the AI using Ambusher unit in C2C v29 (using the download version).

The Ambusher seems to ignore all my units on a tile and kills my worker.

I tried putting scouts, ambushers & mamooth riders on the same tile with my workers - every time the same story. Enemy ambusher kills my worker. Not all of them, but 1 by 1.

I thought if I have a combat unit on the same tile with my worker(s) that the enemy first has to fight and kill that to get my worker?

Welcome to CFC and C2C.

Ambushers are invisible so they can attack your workers because the other units you have been putting with them can't see the ambusher. This is exactly what the dog units are for, they can see the ambusher and "tell" the other units that it is there so they can defend against it.

Is this something new? My invisible units always attack the military units on the tile, whether they (ie the defenders) can see them (the ambushers) or not (my versions are pre-v28 of course). Which is as it should be - it will be a whole new nightmare for the AI if every worker escort has to include dogs or ambushers. (Not very pleasant for me the player either lol)

Different when a unit moves to the tile of the ambusher. In that case there is no attack unless the arriving unit can see him.

He is certain, he was the one that helped me set them up! And no this is not new.
 
Might not be new to u, SVN users, but Im fairly confident I didnt have it in downloaded v28. I had my workers coupled with pack llamas and it was always llamas that got attacked.

OK, tyvm... Does that mean he can attack my workers in towns too?

And an ambusher army it is... AI wont know what hit it.

Nope, units like this can NOT attack towns, unless at war. (mainly because nobody knows WHO they are and cant be normally seen as in Rl (kinda) )Unless your Robin Hood jj :joke:) Only ones that can attack NON-ememy cities is Warlords and the like.
 
Just encountered this with an assassin ignoring my troops and killing the great general in the stack. Very frustrating, considering how the AI loves spamming these stealth units, and assassins are grim for the time period you can get them. I'm swimming in enemy stealth units on all fronts.

Does having a dog in the stack actually stop them from killing the general, or do I just get to see them coming?

Are there any buildings that can do something about these guys? Or promotions for non-dog troops?
 
Build your own same type units (in this case assassin) and/or dogs. Your assassin will "spot" the enemy assassin and then you can take it out.

It's been this way for many many versions.

My assassin in v27 vanilla always attacks a military unit when he moves into an unfriendly stack. As far as I can see, it's the top defender. I know assassins attack recons/hunters first in combat outside cities. That's probably working, but since the warden usually is the top defender, it's hard to tell. :lol:

That's only two versions ago. The same was the case with my game in post-v27 SVN.
