America Unificia?

perhaps something like Eq's new nes then? Early victory in Revolution, most states indpendent, but set in 1936?

so china can't get them...

So Russia can't have any oil either? Heads of state in these modern times are generally not complete idiots. And even so it would be superceded by the military. They wouldn't stand for this.

I didn't write it! Eq did! I was just posting an alt hist used by someone that many accepted!

Well, Saddam Hussein burnt oil wells, but he was the unsophisticated dictator of some small backwater country. Russia, on the other hand, probably has layer upon layer of government to prevent the execution of that devastating action in an already-oil-lacking world.

EDIT: Where's this althist? You could have at least posted the althist so that the many wonderful things could be explained. EDIT2: I remember now.

Heck, the entire population is made up of 7 year olds. One mistake, even a small one, and they overthrow the government.

I still can't get over the fact that Texas revolted in After Victoria.

True. When did eq write it anyways?

Warlords of North America

Really, what the hell though? Why can't anyone simply accept I'm not really caring about the alt hist? Does it need to be plausible? Barely. I just want a hist where I can have the Broken North America in 1936. Gawd :p

If you don't care about making the backstory plausible, what's our guarantee that the story proper won't have the same amount of unenthusiasm?

I had the same thought when trying to construct my own NES, but NESers like some plausibility in the history, even if it is alternate.

Here's another one, from The Frontier

General History

Note that this history is only general, and very vague. It's primary purpose is to give historical understanding to the genesis of various states. I greaty encourage people to suggest filler and events that occured.

1781: The American Colonies, having gained independence enact the Articles of Confederation becoming one united sovereign nation.

1783: Britain formally recognizes the American states, as a confederation, with the Treaty of Paris, and cedes to the confederation British Mississippi and the Northwest Territories (Ohio Valley, Illinois territory).

1786: Maryland and Virginia’s territorial dispute over the Potomac basic leads to violence and fighting. The Confederation’s inability to deal with the problem in particular leads to its collapse as an organization. The colonies become separate nations.

1787: Disputes arise regarding the British territories not under direct control of various colonies. Virginia and Pennsylvania annex parts of Ohio territory. New York and Connecticut also have claims in the region. Pennsylvania Abolitionists and Quakers move into Ohio, while Virginians continue to move west into Illinois.

1798: South Carolinan and Georgian Settlers move into former British Mississippi territory. The Nation of Mississippi is soon formed thereafter.

1800: Napoleon Bonaparte of France regains Louisiana from Spain through a secret treaty. Napoleon envisions a great French Empire in the New World. Later treaties with American nations, Britain, and Spain will settle the borders.

1802: French troops crush a slave rebellion in Hispaniola. Regaining control over the key island allows France to maintain control more easily over Louisiana.

1803: The borders of Louisiana are refined and settled with various treaties between France, the American nations, and Spain.

1805-06: Fighting between settlers in Ohio begins to break out, with Virginia and Pennsylvania each supporting a side. The situation is resolved by splitting the territory into two—Illinois and Ohio. Virginia administers Illinois and Pennsylvania and New York administer Ohio.

1808: Ohio is formed and recognized by Pennsylvania and New York.

1809: In response to Ohio’s formation, Virginia allows Illinois to form into a new nation and recognizes it.

1819: Georgia, concerned with Seminole natives crossing over from Spanish Florida and raiding Georgian settlements, concludes a treaty with Spain and Mississippi. Georgia purchases much of Eastern Florida while Mississippi purchase the remainder west to the Pearl River. In return, Georgia and Mississippi recognize Spain’s claim over Texas.

1821: After eleven years of struggle, Mexico finally gains independence from Spain. Mexico consists of Mexico, Utah, New Mexico, Texas, and California. The territory of Oregon remains in Spanish hands.

1825: Various American states force Spain and Russia to relinquish claims to Oregon territory.

1846-48: American settlers in Texas fight for independence from Mexico. Texas gains independence in 1848.

1847 Mormons begin to settle in Northern New Mexico. Americans continue to settle further West into Mexican territory as well, particularly to California.

1851-53: Mormons attempt to secede from Mexico. Texas uses Mormon situation and American settlers in California as an excuse to intervene. Texas-Mexico war ensues. Mexico loses and is forced to grant California, and Utah independence.

1859: Oregon is formally recognized by American states, Spain, and Russia.

1870-1871: Franco-Prussian War. Frances hands over Louisiana to Germany. Germany begins a program to settle Germans in the northern parts.

1895: Second Cuban War of Independence. New York, with help from others, intervenes on behalf of Cuba after the sinking of one of its naval ships. Using pretences of liberation, Texas goes to war with Mexico and liberates New Mexico.

1903: President of New York, Theodore Roosevelt, helps Panama gain independence and builds the Panama Canal.

1914-1917 The War to End all Wars. The Treaty of Versailles grants Louisiana independence. In addition, a unique territory, Oklahoma, is created as an international reservation for the remaining Native Americans.

1918-1919: Louisiana Civil War. Low-level conflict begins between French in the south and Germans in the north. Heavy pressure from Texas and other American states leads to Louisiana being split and Nebraska being created.

1929: International trade crumbles and leads to Great Depression

1934: As a result of the depression, and particularly several slave riots instigated by violent abolitionists from the North, the National Socialist Party wins elections in South Carolina.

1935: Present Day

1786: Maryland and Virginia’s territorial dispute over the Potomac basic leads to violence and fighting. The Confederation’s inability to deal with the problem in particular leads to its collapse as an organization. The colonies become separate nations.

That's why people had Philadelphia Convention and made the US Constitution.

I also like how entire union fell apart, yet we still have Theodore Roosevelt to work on the Panama Canal on time.

it's alternate history. Maybe the British or the French aided? Either way, it has 0 effect on the nes

anyone interested at all in playing this?

Yes it does. Backstory affects current relations. Plus, if you can't be damned to work on the backstory, how can we guarantee a good NES?

@LF, because I just want to do a BNA

@dld, to give a generic background of the world.

EDIT: The current back story is fine. Sure, there are some rough parts, like the Panama part, but it covers the basic American situation

If you just wanted to have a fragmented America, then you should have come up with a plausible reason.

Otherwise, if you can't be bothered, just plop down a map and say: GO.
