An age old question...what state do the Simpsons live in?

duke, I know it's mostly speculation, and that they intentionally keep it from viewers, but it's still fun to speculate anyhow :D

I think it is somewhere around Missouri. In one episode, Lisa was pointing out to Grandpa Simpson where they were, and then Homer walked in front of the screen. And before he walked in front of the screen she was moving her finger around the map and it was pretty close to Missouri. But she could have moved her finger away really fast.;)

Oops, sorry. Someone already posted about the map. Didn't read the whole thing before posting.

I think the Simpson's are magical, because one time when Homer and Bart were watching Itchy and Scratchy, and Bart said that Itchy tied the tent wrong, Homer said "cartoons don't have to be accurate." While Homer said that, Homer walked by outside, seen through the window.

Magic I tells ya.

A bit OT I know but does anyone have any suggestions as to why there is ALWAYS a crow or something making a "caawww" sound when they cut to an exterior shot of the nuclear powerplant?
No, I didn't know there was. But how often have they done this, is it a common scene(Cutting to an exterior shot of the nuclear powerplant?)

They just live in the US. The fact that they live in Springfield is irrelevant as there is innumerable springfields in the US, and I presume the makers of the show did that on purpose, making the generic American family.

I once read that Springfield is the most common name for a town in the US and was therefore taken by Matt Groening (or whoever chose the name).
However, while it is not possible to say where it is, it is possible to say where it is not. After all they sometimes travel into other states. Maybe some hardcore fans can add to that.

Yes, and Matt Groening grew up in Springfield himself, some say that it is that Springfiled which the Simpsons recide in.

Yes it is VERY common once you start to look for it - everytime they cut to the powerplant for a works scene they always show the exterior first and there is always the "caaaww" sound. Next episode you see look out for it - it will start to annoy you after that :)

Why is there debate on this? It's been clearly given away.

During the episode where C.M. Burns was running for state governor they clearly show the state flag. I'm not familiar with American state flags, but it's the one that has "Not just another state" written on the bottom of it. Surely one of the American posters here knows which one that is. :crazyeye:

There is no state, actually...

But think about this: they must live in the Pacific coast because that's where Homer took the sub into Soviet waters, but bus fares to New York were only 9 dollars!

:crazyeye:

Remember the episode when they went on Springbreak and they got kicked out of florida. There was only 2 states that they were allowed in, One of the Dakotas and another one but they rulled it out because it smelled funny.

Well remember that episode where homer goes to work in an oil field in (western or southern) springfield which is 4 times the size of texas? Now, it may just be me, but I don't think any state matches that criteria.:crazyeye:
