What do you think of this idea for one of our fav' leaders, Elizabeth:

Set up a good gpfarm early with multiple commerce cities and 1-2 prod cities

Beeline calendar

Chop out the mausoleum

Fire off a pile of golden ages in a row

Golden ages enhance gp production and also commerce and production. So this really supercharges both her financial and philosophical traits

Get to lib first, take nationalism, crank out the taj for another one.

Good theory, what vic type would you be aiming for?

Im guessing culture, diplo or space?

Military vics out of question I imagine?

I'm thinking space. I wouldn't say military vics would be out of the question though. You could always beeline advanced military techs and go conquering. Golden ages increase your production as well :goodjob:

How early are you thinking of running them? No matter what, I think it's pretty hard to compete with other early uses of great people.

For Elizabeth specifically, some good midgame times are after Education for Oxford (and Liberalism), and after Banking for Stock Exchanges. With the Mausoleum I can see running those two in some games, ideally working on both Stock Exchanges and the Taj during the second one. But 6 great people by mid-game, would that be worth it?

I doubt I'd run any before then. What tech or buildings would I want from it? Civil Service? But maybe after an overexpansion. And maybe to race to a wonder, tech, or army. If I did want to run multiple early ones, but just for general development rather than a race, I guess I'd use them for Forges+Libraries+Markets, so that the subsequent ones got boosted.

I'm not sure this is that much better with Elizabeth than anyone else. Oxford and Stock Exchanges, yes, and Philo does make it easier to get the great people to do it. But you want an economy no matter who you are, and neither Fin nor Philo improves the effect of a golden age unless you're building a University.

If you're playing on a huge map, golden ages rock!
If you're playing on a duel map, golden ages suck!

:)

I would run them after I have everything in order. What does that mean? It means I would need enough buildings in my gpfarm to run sufficient amounts and varieties of specialists (courthouse, library, forge, market, theatre, temple). It also means I would have to have sufficient #s of commerce cities to make it worthwhile. So, I'm thinking maybe 1-2 of them prior to liberalism to get you to nationalism. Then your 2-3 one from the taj and then the remaining 3-4 afterwards. Combined with the free tech from liberalism and maybe even some tech stealing you should have a clear tech lead at the end of all this.
