well, over the time I have been here I have seen a great profusion of new units come out, particuraley for the ciultures who seeminglly dont get much representation, but in our haste one culture as been overlooked time and time again- the med cultures.

sure, we have a great profusion of ancient units out for those civs, but we have nothing ot fit the "what ifs", in fact, I notice a grea tlaking of even dark/middle age units for them...

so in this request, i would liek to get the ball rolling with a rare, but becomming more, and more made type of request- a DARK AGE, and early middle ages unit request.

in this case, a nice replacemant for the medieval infantry, late Roman-Byzantine style ;)

That is an interesting request. This would be a useful replacement for some scenarios (or just as a flavor unit).

I think someone could easily make a lot of units as Roman flavor units.

Spearman: Some kind of pre-Legion Roman (using a Spear, or just make the Triari)
Archer: Velites
Horsemen: The Horsemen are pretty Roman as they are, but I'm sure you can make it even more Roman
Swordsman: Legion (well duh)
Pikeman: Late Roman Legions used Pikes (and longer swords), and there is the thing Xen posted
Medieval Infantry: Xen posted an idea
Knights: Cataphracts
Longbowman: Verangian Guard (this is a bit of a stretch, but they were Vikings working for Byzantine)

That's pretty much it, unless you want to go into Italian units.

after the units you listed, i was plaaning on doing some drawings on classical ROman based industrial, and modern troops ( the civ3 Centurions with guns! bwa ha ha ha ha!)

I always love the idea flavor units. But does anybody have any thoughts on some Slavic flavor units?

dunno, open a thread for them, i want this one to stay on topic, and the topic is med. flavor units, NOT the slavs.

sorry if I seem a bit mean about it, but i dont want a threadjack

I agree, that Spearman could be quite usefull for the MEM;)

it would be cool if both were made, one as a MI replacement, the other for the pike... :)

but between the two, I think the spearman would be better

*bump*

Oh yes please, Dark Age units would be wonderful!

@Zen I was intrigued by your statement of the Legio with Fulminata (gunpowder) so i dug these pics up for you.

Cheers Thorgrimm

Here is the Equipment of a Legionary with fulminata

WOW! those are awesome! where did you get them? (and if you are the artist, then I must say, thoseare some of the best dammed drawinf i have seen!)

yes, this is certainlly my next request- Legionary Fulminata (or perhaps Fulminatii/Fulminatarii)

thats awesome :D

    LMAO
Sorry but I just could not resist. When I think of all the threads you hijacked in the Conquests forum that ended being Byzantium must be in, the cataphract should be thier UU....
Sorry; no hard feelings I hope: I actually like Byzantium and the cataphracts you requested ;)

I know- and that sexactley why I know how to handle the situation ;) a firm hand, and a loud shout of "theres nothing to see here" gets everthing back on track- now if you will excuse me, I have a new request thread to make ;)

Unfortunately my talents do not extend to the realm of artwork. They are from a role playing game called Fulminata that i found at gen-con. It is a great role playing game that except for the discovery of gunpowder it is very close to history up to a certain point. Wherever they can they use historical precedents and Latin terms. According to them Fulminata means armed with lightning, which is appropriate for the situation!:D
