Analysing/Advice on your Games

Won't your city work all merchants then? Unless you manually control specialists, of course.

This is just to get a bonus when your city grows. In the base game you get production but not food, in VP you get gold and other stuff. So you have to lock all your titles and then adjust each time a city grows.

It is pretty minor, especially without the production bonus but early game minor edges can add up.

1. I am using 10-7
2. I am using, wonders expanded v2, 3/4UC and pontoon bridges v1. I would link them but I have no idea how, sorry.
3. Emperor, Epic speed, and shuffle map type.
4. I wanted to mess around and try to get maximum "We Love the Empress Day" bonuses. I rushed to settle the first city of Shanghia before Shaka could, so that city might not be in the best location but I feel it is very defensible. My neighbors have not been a problem at all so far but I have been keeping up the military to try and prevent them from declaring on me. I went Tutelary Gods so early game I wont fall behind in production and I feel it works very well with progress China getting cities to 3 pop for the the production and keeping them there so I don't become unhappy. As for my Religion I wanted to keep pressing the WLTED bonuses. For my next Policy tree I want to go either Fealty or Artistry but can't decide between the two and I'm thinking Industry as the last one. I am happy with my current 6 cities but I kinda wanna go settle to the northeast of Nanjing to get the incense and Coffee but I refrained from it as I think it would not be worth trying to defend. Currently on tech I am going for iron working to get forges and the free great work, then I am rushing education for Oxford and the examination hall to get those GPP rolling. A city sate has a quest for a GM otherwise I would be working the scientist slot in the Capital
5. I would like to know where you would have put your cities and what pantheon/beliefs you would have chosen. Otherwise give me your judgement on how I've played so far and how you would continue this.
6. I do not mind to be anon or not.
Thank you! I am a big fan and can't wait to see what you have to say!

Can you play 1 or 2 turns, then save and give me save? Maybe it will help to salvage game :)

Hi Milae, I have another save if you want to look at it. Something I am always struggling with, with a very aggressive neighbor.

I include both the start (I might have moved my settler before saving) and my Great Prophet save and give more details below, in spoiler in case you want to try before reading. It is on the 5-28 beta, deity, your map, ruins and events on, everything else standard. The start looks great but it went downhill when I got attacked.

Thanks!

Spoiler More details on my game :
Norway was the neighbor. After founding, I started building walls and units, but it didn't deter Norway from attacking, around T110. Their UA made my cities' locations less defensive than it could have been (the most exposed cities are protected by water, trebuchets that can land and shoot immediately are tough). Also it turned that I was their only target (it also limited my diplomacy options as it was impossible to find a common enemy to make them like me more).

Even rushing to Chivalry I didn't have castles in place when they brought in trebuchets, despite taking holy law and scholarship. I went Progress because I had some space, not many barb camps and wanted to rush to Knights/Winged Hussars, but in hindsight Authority would have been safer I guess? Can the game be salvaged after the Great Prophet save?

One weakness of my game at this point (GP save) is that I hadn't met other civs yet (except my main neighbor), as my first pathfinder got killed by a dromon after cleaning a barb camp for a CS quest. As a result I had no gold. I was making new pathfinders to fix that.

Thanks man, have you got a savefile of when they attacked? Also did you go masonry first or writing?

Masonry, for the terracotta (at least I got it). Here is a save file just after they declared.
Also, whenever possible I would try to bully my neighbor, steal a worker, etc... but it didn't work out here.

Alternative Component Names for VP: https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/alternative-component-names-for-vp.638569/

3. Game settings: King, Marathon, Huge (Milae's Map Mod)

4. Summary of my game: https://old.reddit.com/r/civvoxpopuli/comments/pec5gs/mistakes_were_made/
I have saves throughout the whole game. "Mystery of the Druids" is my earliest save file (it's a reference), Indominable is my current one.

5. Topics: Policy/ideology choices, the diplomatic situation, wonders, how to win the culture victory, salvaging my economy while sanctioned.

6. Doesn't matter to me.

Oops, forgot to mention: I deleted the Israel folder in the 34UC folder since I was unsure how it would affect the game. Guessing that's what is causing the incompatibility. This is what the mod list should look like:

Sorry for the confusion!

Also, here's the savefile for when I select my ideology near the start of my war with the Huns. I'm not too sure on what ideology to pick. Note the low military supply.

Settings:
1.3.4 (Dec 2021), with 4UC, community events and enhanced naval warfare (probably didn't matter since it's still early medieval). Emperor difficulty, standard pace, standard map size with your pangaea map script (v3) as Rome.

Game info:
I always didn't like picking authority since I feel like my science and culture always lack behind but decided to try it out with early 4UC ballistae and legions, and ended up punishing Ethiopia's forward settle and stealing Parthenon on the way in 2 separate wars. During the second war, Carthage somehow expanded to my side and decided to go mad after I took Lalibela. After seeing that I am certainly not taking Addis without indirect fire I decided to peace out (which might have been a mistake), fearing that with my low supply limit I wouldn't be able to defend against Carthage's knights while focusing on sieging the next city. Meanwhile Poland is trying to do something funny with their settler but unfortunately I won't be able to deal with them right now with Dido and Halie being annoying.

In the latest save I'm trying to solidify and prepare for the next war, thinking if I should attack now or wait a few turns for steel. Would love feedback on my army composition, tech/culture balance and religion. Since I got sniped on Alhambra I'm considering Hagia Sophia after Physics for enhancer but it might be a bit too late for that.

Also included a save when I got my prophet, I barely got the religion in time and was lucky enough that the AIs didn't take orders. Thanks a lot!

Version 1.4.6
No other mods
Deity, Normal speed, Normal size Pangea with 7 ais.

I've played 5 games with this save and it always runs into a similar situation.
I start at the top left with Poland, and my neighbors are Greece, Venice, Ethiopia, and across them are Zulu, Babylon, Portugal, and Morocco.
After making 4-5 cities to put my luxury resources and Fountain of Youth on the border, it's around 70-90 turns, when Greece creates a new city right near my city and starts a war (even though I'm far enough from his border)
Fortunately, there is a jungle and swamp between Greece and me, so I can block it without losing units.
But no matter how the war with Greece ends, the game after that is bleak.
Nearby city-states are all puppet cities of Venice, and most other city-states are allies of Morocco.
Ethiopia is far ahead in science.
If I somehow create a second dependent country with a winged hussar rush, Morocco, which has grown without checks, is leading in every way. Even Morocco is a very difficult location for me to attack geographically.
Even if they tried to check Morocco with other AIs, it was impossible because everyone except Zulu maintained a very close relationship.
And the game ends with Morocco's diplomatic or cultural victory.
Except for the fact that he always founded a religion with the doctrine of orders to deal with the definitive Greek hoplite rush, I've tried this and that.
After watching your Poland play video, I tried the hybrid policy.
But it always ended in the same way with the same situation.
I'd like to get some tips from watching you play from the same seed as me before giving up on this save.
Please help me.

I'm sorry that the grammar isn't smooth because I used a translator.

Byzantium Progress on version 2.1.0:

Turn 104
6 Cities
5 Progress
17 Technologies
Ancestor Worship
Pyramids, Mausoleum of Halikarnassos and Hanging Gardens in Constantinople (settled on Salt)
Fountain of Youth

Image 1.jpg

What should I pick as religion, and how should I proceed generally? I settled forward aggressively re Spain and will likely get in conflict with them and/or the Iroquois, but generally don't enjoy the military game - I'm more for building up my cities and marginalising competitors via Religion, gold and culture (hence picking Progress).

Settings:
Difficulty: King
Standard communitu map
Standard Speed
No Ancient Ruins
No Events
No Tech Trading
Raging Barbarians
