Anarchy Production

You have gold coming in from other AI civs. That's why you're still turning a profit. It also works the other way around as you could be losing gold if you're paying to other civs. While it does drain you're treasury, in my experience even if you do reach zero none of you're units are disbanded or city improvements destroyed.

I have had a +500 gpt in Anarchy once. I also believe someone in the HoF forum researched communism in 4 turns in Anarchy.

This only is true on Chieftain. On all other levels you lose 1 building and 1 unit per turn of deficit.

Not quite technically true. You don't lose buildings or units to lack of gold while in anarchy (which is what I think DS_Legionary was saying). They don't require upkeep in anarchy, so you don't lose them.

Anybody know...if you're under the unit limit for a certain govt. type but still running negative income, do you lose a unit and a building or just a building? BTW, I consider doing so an exploit, but that's another discussion.

I am fairly sure you just lose a building.

OMG! So in anarchy you can run negative cash flow while at 0 gold and you have NO ill affects? This is a disgusting exploit!

I just finished an anarchy stint where I was bringing in about 450 gpt, the scientist is the reason you are still researching Economics

Yeah, I use it just about every game. Buy Republic for all my gold and enough gpt, then have a revolution and do not pay about 1/3 of the value of the tech. Yeah it is an exploit, but hey <snigger>.

See you tommorrow?

Hmmm... no one has noticed this? Why has everyone been saving enough gold to last the anarchy period? :D Oh yeah. It's an exploit.

Thats what I've been doing for the past 3 years, I make sure I have enough money to make it through anarchy, I'll have to try things different next time

I'm not sure how useful this is as an exploit. You still produce no shields during anarchy and significantly less food than all the post-despotism governments. I don't see how purposefully staying in anarchy for extended periods is a viable strategy, most of the time...

However, I did have a game once where I started my golden age by going to war with my military already maxed out to the unit support limit and my treasury somewhat low. During the war I used the golded age boosted production to build (and supply) a really huge number of military units for the war. But, when the golden age ended I had a serious problem, even with 100% taxation I could no longer support my bloated military. The only way to avoid mass desertion was to purposefully stay in anarchy until I had taken enough cities (or lost enough units) that I could support my army.

It was one of the most interesting games I can remember, because I really did get this feeling that I had lost control of my army. It wanted to fight on, and I wanted to make peace. And it was going to get its way.
