Andy Rooney, a Cranky Voice of CBS, Dies at 92

By RICHARD SEVERO and PETER KEEPNEWS
Published: November 5, 2011

Andy Rooney, whose prickly wit was long a mainstay of CBS News and whose homespun commentary on “60 Minutes,” delivered every week from 1978 until 2011, made him a household name, died on Friday in New York City.

I always liked this guy. Sorry to see him go. Rooney served in WWII in the Army. He was assigned as a reporter for Stars and Stripes, the military's in house newspaper. As such he was in many places during the war and got to see more of it than most common soldiers. Though that wasn't necessarily safe. And he took several flights in bombers, which was one of the highest casualty parts of the Army.

R.I.P. :salute:

I thought it was Mickey Rooney, I thought he died a while back?

RIP anyway.

Man..... Sorry to see him go. I always loved his commentary. :( Rest in peace.

He was a great commentator. Back in the 80s he even did a piece on an idea I sent him. By dying we make way for new generations to shine. RIP Andy.

You ripping off Steve Jobs? It was a good quote though.

Hardly a great man;

“of the fact that many of the ills which kill us are self-induced: too much alcohol, too much food, drugs, homosexual unions, cigarettes. They’re all known to lead quite often to premature death. - Andy Rooney

...Yeah.

Well, he lived to 92.

I've never knowingly quoted Steve Jobs, but he might have been quoting me and not giving credit. ;)

He was a great commentator.

The WWII generation, the men that served, are passing at a fast rate now. Beyond the loss of Rooney himself, it's also a symbol of a passing of an era. My father was at Pearl Harbor, 12/7/41. My landlord with the Army in Italy and France. Both passed. I have an uncle who was at Iwo Jima, and likely won't live much longer.

...Yeah.

That's the great thing about him. He hit to all sides. Not just the pc ones. Homosexuals(men at least) are in a hight risk group for a number of diseases.

Really? What was it?
It was about how companies like P&G offer multiple brands of things like tooth paste, shampoo and soap to "create" demand in consumers. the specific remark in his commentary that I remember is that he said he used a bar of ivory (or other brand) bar soap to wash his hair as well as his arms and legs.
