Ank13 - Monty goes into Space

I'm finally ready to play, but I can't find my CD. I'll play either tomorrow night or be swapped; your choice.

(2) - Discover Metallurgy, enter the Industrial Ages. Buy a Worker from Babylon for 30 gold; good because we won't be paying support for it. No one has anything to trade. Start Steam Power. 25 turns at -11 gpt

(4) - Hiawatha demands Economics, I refuse. If they had declared war, we could have signed the Russians against them and devastated their continent.

(5) - Magnetism and Metallurgy to India for Democracy and WM. That was really just an excuse to get them into the Industrial Ages so we can trade with them.

(6) - We complete Newton's [party] We don't really have anything to build, but I start Smith's as a prebuild for a Factory. We may lose the prebuild, but there isn't anything else worthwhile available. Research reduced to 16 turns, still at -11 gpt.

(8) - Germany declares war on Greece. Uh-oh. Prepare for Greece to be occupied.

(9) - France and Germany sign an MPP. It's looking bad for Greece. Knossos is already German.

(11) - Athens completes Smith's. No more prebuild for us. Paris completes Shakespeare's. Our prebuild is switched to a Knight for lack of anything better.

(12) - Babylon and Germany sign an MPP. Goodbye, Greece.

(13) - Disband the veteran Archer and move our new Knight into its place.

(15) - We lose our Horses, Dyes and Spices. Rebuy them along with Free Artistry, WM and 50 gold from the Iroquois for Economics. Buy two Workers off of Greece for 60 gold (better us than Germany). Suddenly, our whole continent has Steam Power, so it's due in 1 turn.

Surprisingly, Greece hasn't yet triggered Germany's MPPs with Babylon and France and they have also lost no more cities after Knossos. Nonetheless, things are longing grim for Alex.

1405 AD (1) - No coal, unsurprisingly, plus none for which we can trade. So no railroads, at the moment. Electricity in 24 turns at -1gpt.

It - Bismarck demands 24g, I grudgingly comply.

1415 AD (3) - Buy worker from France for 15g. Babs MPP with Germany was triggered, so they declared on Greece.

1420 AD (4) - ToG to Iroquois for MT, 45g, and their WM.

1425 AD (5) - Steam Power to India to get Iron, Furs again.

1430 AD (6) - Buy Greek worker for WM, 20g.

1435 AD (7) - Do a round of WM trading and pick up a worker and some gold. Sell Magnetism to Russia for Saltpeter, then decide to gift them to IA and hope they get Medicine. They get Nationalism instead, and we can't trade for it.

1445 AD (9) - Finally an available source of Coal. Get it from Babylon for WM, 108g.

Then nothing but railroading.

Ok... we have railroads. I hope we have enough workers there to use the 20 turns so we won't need to buy more coal.

Ankka - up... I guess.

We definitely do not have enough workers. Six slaves equals one railroaded tile every two turns, as we only have grass. But, we still have forests which need to be chopped before they ought to be railroaded. Actually, I think we can get it all done. In our last turn of coal, split up the workers so they each get their own tile. It will take 12 turns in grass tiles and 24 in forest tiles, but it will get everything railroaded without needing to renew. I don't know that I would advocate this though. It would probably be better just to get coal for 20 more turns.

1500AD [5]: Renew some lux deals with Hiawatha for Steam Power.

And from Germany for WM + 23gold.

1520AD [9]: The French just started the Universal Suffrage... no one has Electricity yet, and we are just one turn away...

1525AD [10]: We just got Electricity. Time for some trading:

to France for Industriliazation, Medicine & 114gpt.
to Babylon for Sanitation, 9gpt, 19 gold.
to Germany for 9gpt, iron and 70 gold. Looks like the prize has dropped a lot..
to Greece for nationalism + 48gold.

The rest are poor and stupid.

1535AD [11]: Hurry a hospital for 364 gold. We had exactly 364 gold. Talk about a good timing for having money!

1545AD [14]: I think I have something wrong in my turn counting...

Anyway, we lost our coal... and no one has it for trade available!

Luckily we got all the grasslands and one forest railroaded..

1550AD [15]: Monti riots. :smoke:

I hired some entertaining tax collectors (=lift the luxtax), but someone had furs to trade now as I think... check that out.

Greece was destroyed last IBT.
Here's where the great nation of Greece used to be.

Pre-flight: Sell Industrialization to India for some gpt and furs. That allows us to lower the lux slider.

IT: We get a palace expansion.

1590AD: Yay! Scientific Method! ToE due in 15. Seems too slow, but I don’t want to deal with pollution. Set research on RP.

1600AD: Buy coal from the French.

1620AD: The AIs have SCIM!!!! Salvage what I can and get RP.

Here’s the save, Six turns to Corporation, Eight to ToE. Beware the Suffrage cascade.

Ok... too bad we couldn't use the SciMeth to get more gpt... but RP was a good one too, now our slaves should be able to rr one tile in a turn... 2x faster. :)

The AI tech pace is getting quite high. How should we fix this?

1665 AD (8) - ToE completed. Start factory. Give Atomic Theory to India for Communism, Espionage, Refining, 297g, and 27gpt. Sell to Babylon for 871g and 27gpt. In a risky move, we get Oil, Rubber, Horses, and 30g for Atomic Theory from Germany. Let's hope they honor the deal. I wanted Rubber so we could upgrade to Infantry though, so it seemed worth the risk. Finally, give Refining to Russia for 12gpt, 31g, and Saltpeter. Start min run on Radio.

IT - Germany declares on France. Wonder how long this will last?

1670 AD (9) - The declaration opens up a lux and some gpt in France. 62gpt, 88g, and Ivory gets them Atomic Theory.

1675 AD (10) - Steel is out there. Iroquios take Atomic Theory for Steel and WM.

We lost luxes in the last turn. We can buy them, with lump sums, for very little. Since they only give us one, two, or three happy faces across our entire empire, they don't cost much. We could also sell Electronics, but that doesn't seem like such a good idea.

Also thought it would be fun to see the city view, as we have so many wonders. But it is kind of boring. :(

Why did you take saltpeter from Russia? Rather uselesss... no wait, it isn't. We can build cavs... although infantries would propably be better.

Good job getting us an upper hand in techs. :)

We still had knights. I figured it would be better to upgrade them to cavs, which is why I got horses and saltpeter. Plus, 12gpt was the most they could give. It is not like I took less money to get the resource.
