Ive got a P4 3Ghz HT 512mb with 64mb 9700 Mobility and so far non of the proposed fixes have worked elsewhere. I never had the initialization problem but the game did constantly hang, cause a VPU error, crash and reset the machine every few mins in the game or just sat in the front end.

My BIOS will not let me set the AGP aperture so that was out the window which fixed it on the main machine but not the laptop, in the end I started playing with the texture quality settings.

Goto ati control panel->ATI Display Settings->3D Tab->Custom (On DX Settings). Change the Texture Preference and Mipmap Detail Level, you can do this quickly too without having a machine restart.

For me setting them both to performance makes the game run perfect. But try putting texture on performance and mipmap on high performance. The lower the settings the worst quality the textures in the game but im not to fussed by that. In my config ive also turned off DynamicAnimPaging which may have also made a difference.

Give it a try you never know I would be interested to know if it fixes it for other people, but the graphics coder needs shooting he is f***ing useless lets hope he is never allowed on another engine.

Hear hear, thanks for the heads up, but I will wait for the patch. This game is causing blue screen on my computer, it was the first time my computer got blue screen (2 years old computer). Now I feel the overall performance of my computer going down..

I will try this and let you know how it goes. This may be the fix I'm looking for. Here's hoping for the best!

Right setting it to performance does increase performance without significant ugliness but high performance makes it ugly without really increasing performance over performance.
