Another thing about Manhattan as small wonder

No, no, no, you're wrong...

When they say "It can only be built once by each civ" they mean that YOU CAN ONLY BUILD IT IN ONE CITY AND NOT BUILD IT AGAIN UNLESS IT IS DESTROYED, so instead of being by just one civ (like great wonders) they are constructed in one city by each civ.

this is what i'm hoping for.

Unfortunately, I don't think that's the way it will work.

Using that logic, you could say that Great Wonders can be rebuilt if they are destroyed, and we know that doesn't work.

Maybe if Dan from Firaxis has enough time away from "testing" Civ3 one of these days he'll visit the forum and clear things up.

PS. Regarding the pentagon, it's being repaired, not rebuilt. If it were destroyed, I don't think a new one would be made.

From Sparrowhawk:
>Using that logic, you could say that Great Wonders can be >rebuilt if they are destroyed, and we know that doesn't work.

But great wonders don't get destoryed, they get captured. It makes no sense to not be able to rebuild a small wonder. It is punishment enough to have to rebuild it in the first place, let alone never being able to have it.

What logical reason would there be to not allow a civ to rebuild something that every other civ can build? It makes no sense.

But Great Wonders can be destroyed, by destroying the city that they're in.

Small or Great, Wonders are very unique things, not like other city improvements at all. Their influence depends on that uniqueness.

To be able to recreate them after their destruction would be "ho-hum, just another pentagon".

great wonders are different than small wonders. there might be a difference in in how their destruction is handled.

No because great wonders are unique, while small wonders obviously aren't because you can have seven pentagons in the world, for instance.

According to Jaykay at least, Great Wonders are still captured like in Civ2, not destroyed.

It's not according to me...it's according to the Civ 3 Official Website!! ( www.civ3.com )

Even a Granary can only be built once... per city. That doesn't mean you can't rebuild the Granary if it is destroyed or falls out of maintenance, does it? So if your small wonder city gets invaded, you can just rebuild it elsewhere.

We rebuilt the Pentagon, didn't we?

I understand what u're saying and u could be right, but u could also be wrong!!!!

I don't really think that if they meant that small wonders could be built after their destruction, they wouldn't use the same words to describe them, as they would know that it would cause discussion!! (or perhaps that's what they want to)

"Small Wonders are a new type of Wonder that can be built by every civ, but only once."

(Great Wonders)"They can be built only once, and are winner take all -- whomever completes the Wonder first reaps the rewards."

This is just a question of interpretation...and i don't think we will really know, unless someone who really played the game dissipates our doubts, or unless when we'll be playing!! :)
