Daniel Nahmod is a singer/songwriter who is very popular in New Thought churches, and who is sharing his music throughout the world.

His signature song, ”One Power”, is a beautiful view of looking at God from a higher vision that can include all of our metaphors for God. I don’t present this as proof of anything, or even the “right way” to look at God, only one way to look at God that helps to bridge the gaps between religions instead of amplifying them. Here are the lyrics:

One Power
by Daniel Nahmod

There’s One Power, invisible, and you see it everywhere and every day.
There’s One Power, indescribable, and you speak of it in every word you say.
Mysterious until you know the truth.
As simple as the love inside of you.

Call it God, call it Spirit, call it Jesus, call it Lord,
Call it Buddha, Bahá'u'lláh, Angel’s Wings or Heaven’s Door,
But whatever name you give it, it’s all One Power, can’t you see?
It’s the power of the love in you and me.

We speak so many languages, have different clothing, different colors, different names,
But different is only dangerous when we forget that in the heart we’re all the same.
And we’ll remember when we close our eyes to see
That such distances were never meant to be.

Call it God, call it Spirit, call it Jesus, call it Lord,
Call it Buddha, Bahá'u'lláh, Angel’s Wings or Heaven’s Door.
It’s Muhammed, it’s your mind, it’s your soul or it’s your sign,
It’s the Universe, it’s music, Mother Earth or Father Time,
But whatever name you give it, it’s all One Power, can’t you see?
Whatever name you give it, it’s the very air we breathe.
It’s the power of the love in you and me.

One Power. One Power. One Power.

It’s the moment of creation.
It’s an everlasting peace.
It’s the freedom of forgiveness.
It’s the sweetness of release.
It’s the joy of inspiration.
It’s the sunshine on your face.
It’s the birthright of all nations.
It’s the boundlessness of space.
It’s the beauty of a baby,
The serenity of sleep.
It’s the anger we abandon
For it’s love that’s most deep.
It’s One Power.
It’s the power of the love that lives forever in you and me.
It’s the power of the love in you and me.

I believe this is one of the most beautiful songs every written, and I wanted to share it with you. I am not a shill for Daniel Nahmod, though I have tremendous respect for his work. I believe that in all of our discussions about the nature of God, we are (as Joseph Campbell put it), “…killing each other over who has the better metaphor.”

Another Daniel Nahmod song that I like is called ”I Don’t Need To Know”. It a nice song about peace, and “…the wisdom to know the difference.” I see in these song lyrics as well the idea that we as humans would so like to ascribe attributes to God:

I Don’t Need To Know
by Daniel Nahmod

When things go wrong, it’s natural to wonder,
“What celestial rule did I break?”
When things go right, it’s logical to ponder,
“What credit can I take?”
But the truth is so much easier, I don’t need a master plan.
I can live here in the moment, ‘cause my life is in good hands.

I don’t need to know where the wind blows, ‘cause God knows.
I don’t need to know what the future holds, ‘cause God knows.
I need never know how pain ends, how my heart mends.
I can just let go, ‘cause God knows.

Still I find I’m crying out for answers;
Guess I’m still craving control.
And still I find I’m afraid of taking chances,
As if I could damage my soul.
But at this moment I remember, it comes so clear to me
That the minute I surrender, I’m as safe as I could be.

I don’t need to know where the time goes, ‘cause God knows.
I don’t need to know what the future holds, ‘cause God knows.
I need never know how pain ends, how my heart mends.
I can just let go, ‘cause God knows.

if God is the beauty of a baby is he also the rigor mortis of road kill?

if god becomes anything and everything the term becomes irrelevant. Its just another caes of someone when confronted with the logical problems of organized religion tries to adopted a different definition of god. usually its a god of the gaps or in this case the "god is love" bunk. I'm all for peace, love, harmony and all that jazz, but do we really need to adopted unorthodox views of religion to get it?

The next time I feel that way will be the first. When things go wrong, I tend to ask myself: where did I screw up? How can I fix it?

I don't believe asking what "celestial rule did I break?" is natural in the slightest. Are his views shared by a lot of people?
