Any good map scripts that work with VP?

It runs ok here with the last public beta, strangely faster in game then in WB. But it can only manage a single map in WB... it crashes the civ5 engine and requires restart after that. Do you get repeated failures in game? Did you make multiple attempts? It is prone to the occasional hiccup.

I posted the issue in the github. It's apparently due to a conflict between RED modpack and a mod for RED that resizes units (RED ones are so small I can't see the good work done with them). However, I can still play with other maps, and Communitas worked on the 19/09 version so I find it very weird.

I read your Git report and I'm skeptical that it's R.E.D. Commented over there... poster was thinking of a different mod, Ethnic Units... not J.E.D.

You're right about which mod I use, but "RED just ethnic diversity" still seems to be the source of the crash. I ran a series of test: first, I used only VP's six components, then I added Quick Turns and InfoAddict, next I added RED. So far, so good. At that point, I added "RED just ethnic diversity" and got a CTD. The strange thing is that it works with other maps, and worked on previous versions.

Yup, seeing it now. Let's take it over to Git.

So, ive played a bit on tectonic and its awesome!

One question tho, anyone know how to play with this script in multiplayer?

My guess is... if you head into My Games\Sid Meier's Civ V\Mods\Tectonic (or whatever the folder is called), copy Tectonic.lua and paste it into My Games\Sid Meier's Civ V\Mods\Maps, you should be able to see the map in multiplayer in the list.

Tectonic folder also contains a XML file, isnt that important?

I guess i could try and put the lua in maps and see if it works ...

From memory, Tectonic changes the naming of the map sizes and some of the numbers of civs & CSs used in them. Those XML files should just be changing the TXT_KEYs used to provide a visual feedback to the player during map option changes.

Just downloaded PerfectWorld3, Tectonic and Planet Simulator. The forests in PS looks banded and strange. Haven't tried the other 2 yet but I wanna use Reseed! to look at the results (without actually playing first), but it is crashing almost every load or Restart with VP...
Are there any other peeping mods that would work so I can be sure that the map settings are to my liking before I actually regen and play?

The basic code in Communitas is based heavily on PerfectWorld and Planet Simulator is also very similar. I can't imagine there are that many differences with many of the mapscripts that would drastically affect gameplay.
The biggest differences should be things like mountain ranges, contiguous forests/jungles and placement of resources and Natural Wonders. Communitas has some functions from AssignStartingPlots included in it so that will be the obvious different map.

Truthfully though IMHO if maps are making things too easy/difficult then there is something wrong with the script, all maps should be fine with any game.
Again, that's just my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

The only alternative I can think of is to use WorldBuilder to hammer out multiple maps at various settings. You're at the mercy of RNG once you're in a live game, but if you spend enough time in WB with different scripts, you can at least tune your settings to taste.

I had thought that the forest banding in Planet Simulator was the result of it trimming forest away from adjacent desert and snow tiles, but it apparently doesn't do this directly. It does, however, fill gaps to make forest continuous. It also has some routines that do terrain conversion for aesthetic purposes. The occasional banding is likely an unintended side effect of how that's handled.

So, after i played with communitas, tectonic and planet simulator, I wold rate them as follows

1. communitas
2. tectonic
3. planet simulator

Ultimately i will be playing with planet simulator the most and then a bit of tectonic. Reasoning behind this is as follows, communitas for me is unplayable because of the resource issue (i like the mountains it generates, makes the game more tactical), tectonic is nice but very random and hard to get a good map (especially since idk what each of its settings does), its either too much land or too little or ...
Planet simulator is the most balanced of them all and i like that you can choose to start on the largest continent instead of, well, everywhere thus making a sort of colonization era when astronomy is discovered :)

Oh dear...I wanna have a change of environment but I wanna get something that is balanced for VP at huge map size, default civs# (12), resources and other settings. I am hearing that Planet simulator would be the closest then?

I think yes. Tectonic is fine too but its not "user friendly" :)

Planet simulator is pretty straight forward and as far as i could tell, its pretty balanced (unlike communitas).

it is not balanced in coal distribution on default settings, but communitas isnt either. it depends on user taste. I tried sparse with communitas and that jump between standard and sparse is rly huge regarding strategic resources. Anyway i found that both, tectonic and Planet make prettier maps, but also less crowded. I advice add some more AIs if you used to play with default(random) setting with communitas. or let it be if you like peacefully games.

Hmm well now that you mention it ... coal was less than usual but I dont mind it that much, it makes building factories and such more of an important decision instead of just building it everywhere because coal was abundant.

there is about 130 coal on average with standard setting. i usually play with 13 civs(14 together) + some of it grab city states. thats 9 coal for every civ( not count cs) in theory, but that distribution by script doesnt make it that ideal. i found myself upon coal discovery rather uncapable of reach any.
