Ok, first off I did manage to get the game installed on my girlfriend's computer. Her specs; AMD 64 @ 3400+, 512 mb ddr 333 ram, geforce 5200 video card with 81.84 drivers, WinXP with SP2. Runs nicely all things considered.

My computer; AMD 64 x2 @ 4800+, 2 gb ddr400 ram, geforce 7800 pci-e video card with 81.85 drivers, WinXp with SP2. Installs and dies before opening the game. The error message I get is ;

"Sid Meier's Civilization 4 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I wasn't altogether worried because I tend to do a lot of stress testing on my system, and am always installing new software and figure that there is an incompatability somewhere. So I installed a set up Norton Ghost system backups I had made from 3 weeks ago (system was purchased Sept. 30). Same problem.

The usual; my graphics drivers are up to date. I've got the latest firmware on my DVD burners and/or ROM drives. Windows updates are up to date. Running Spysweeper 4.03.somthing and Norton Antivirus 2005. Shutting those down made no difference.

Any ideas?

thanks

Tom
