Ok here's the situation. I"m Germany on a large map, maximum number of Civs on Emperor level. I was in Demo and wanted to go accross the channel to invade China. I havne't been at war with China for quite some time and that was back when I was Communist. I cross the channel (the continent I'm on is all mine) lose a few units during the invasion and the VERY NEXT turn 83% of my people are whining about "giving peace a chance" I've never tried to war with a Demo government before on any level, I am usually Monarch and sometimes Rep or Communist when I war.

Has anyone ever successfully had a war in Demo? I thought since China would not have units in my country I could manage with the WW, but 83%!!!

By the way I have uni sufferage and police stations and pretty much all the happiness improvements in my cities.

I've successfully had a war in Demo. Just get them to declare war on you, it goes easier. Helps if they're your traditional enemy.

Yeah, having US & PSs will help a lot, too.

I often wage war in demo my citizens barely riot. And it make me fell like the U.S.

Yeah I think that was my mistake, I"m top on the histograph and it's 2012 and I have most of the world but I wanted to get the game over with and try for a domination victory. I tried to get China to war with me but couldn't so I was the invader, I forgot about that.. thanks turner

(sabo going back to communism)

Good one!

I just noticed you have 1776 posts you must be a true American.

I war all the time in Demo and rarely have problems if the wars are short. Generally the only time I declare war on someone in Demo is to grab Luxuries which help mitigate the happiness problems.
The best way to get someone to declare war on you is to use Espionage on the risky setting, or expose enemy spy. Just get them down to annoyed or furious with some demands and they'll declare almost every time.
A good way to help eleviate some WW without peace is to get another Civ to declare on you. If you can handle this then you get a little 'We're going kick ass' happiness boost that lasts a few turns. If you just defend your territory and don't lose any units then it lasts longer. It's best to finish the first war fairly quickly or you'll have double the WW. Finishing the war will end the WW from that war and also the 'Stop the aggression against our mother country' which could be in more than just the new cities you conquered if you have fought them before. Citizens stay their original Civ for a long time.

WW is caused by you having your units in their territory not them having units in yours.

Kicking butt at Emperor now I see. There was a 'What level are you playing at' thread where we both we were just starting Emperor and having trouble if we didn't get the GL. Over that hump now. I have my first deity win on boil right now with the Carthaginians, bless their souls.

Just about all of my wars are done in democracy, this may be one of my flaws, but it works for me :) I try to keep wars as short as possible though. I tend to build up loads of units, and then rush the enemy. This doesnt give your people much time to be unhappy ;) --- I play on Emporer level mostly

I hate WW. It is horrible. But it is very managebale. The biggest invasion I've next ever made was by sea, and consisted of about 18 carrirs filled with stealth bombers/jets, about 270 MAs on transports, about 20 marines, 25 battleships, 2 Aegis Cruisers, 30 destroyers, about 5 nuclear subs, and 1 sub. The turn after I attacked ALL of my citeis began to riot. I put my lux slider as far as it will go, but still only a few riots were hushed. I eventually just had to switch to monarchy. I think that the larger the force youi send, the bigger WW will be. But its usually not that bad. its not hard to wage war in demo. Most of my wasrs are quick and are over by the time it would have takine me to switch governments. If you have to experience anarchy, then its probably not a good idea to go to war.

P.S. The war I talked about occured way past 2050.

I tend to stay in Republic if I fight alot of wars, but I too find fighting big wars in Democracy manageable. Tricking the AI into declaring war is rarely hard, particularly since I usually have a lousy rep in the late game.

its easy btw, keep demanding things until they are furious, then try to expose one of their moles. They will immediatley declare war on you :) (unless you are actually successful, in which case do it again )

IIRC, it is actually caused by both - your people don't appreciate foreign soldiers trampling on your fields and scaring your cattle either.

I don't usually go to war in Democracy but that's because I only rarely get into democracy - I'll only go there if I'm religious. A republic will last far longer in war, and monarchy will perform better than communism.
If you have Sistine, Bach's and several luxes a democracy can support a war for a while, but on higher levels, you won't usually get all of those (unless by conquering or leaderrushing them, of course).

I usually play warlord, so I maybe don't much i should say, but if you got temples and chathedrals in every city, pluss Sistine Chapel, Bach's Chatedral and marketplacec with 6- 8 luxuries, you shouldn't have much of a problem, even on Emperor.

one thing you must see is that if you have 8 different luxuries connected, with marketplaces everycity. i declare war on demo and my approval % is something like 93% in my current game!
and i don't have US or PS since i'm in the middle of medieval times!

War Weariness is so fickle. I believe it's either time (15-20 turns) or your own combat losses which really tears it. If I am not a religious civ, I'll generally stick to Republic.

I think there are two options and they seem
to exclude each other: war or democracy. :)
If you are religious, you can try switching
democracy/communism, otherwise republic is better. Too bad they didn't implement Techokratie from Call to Power :(

From previous discussion WW seems to be only affected by length of war and cities taken/lost. Losing units or having them in enemy territory doesn't seem to have any affect except maybe prolonging the war, thus adding to the problem. WW in Democracy is pretty bad, but with enough luxuries and using the slider, you should be able to hold out at least 20+ turns. If you are the aggressor you should make sure you are ready to turn up the slider, win decisively, and build police stations. If you are being attacked by a traditional enemy you will have a few turns of War Happiness. If possible trick them into attacking you first and then blitz them into hell. I wouldn't recommend a long war but if you have the forces to wipe them out in less than 10-20 turns I don't see why not.

Religious is a whole different matter. You should start in democracy and change your government step by step as WW gets worse. You are going to want maximum production with less corruption until the last possible second. Although unless you are playing the AU mod I see NO reason to ever go into communism.
