Yeah it does seem like rather a waste of the IP; I mean it looks fun enough as far as these things go, but I'm not quite sure how it relates. Especially since the whole point of the syndicate agents was that they were mindless murderous automatons whose actions were directly controlled by the corporate guy in the blimp, which I'm not sure is that easy to bring over to a mass-market FPS (unless they pull the entirely obvious plot twist).
They've also had the unfortunate luck of choosing an art style that looks EXACTLY like Human Revolution.
Anyway I might be in a minority here, but I'm gonna say that I never thought Syndicate was actually terribly good as a game. The concept was and still is fantastic, but the game had almost zero strategy, and apart from persuadertron armies was really pretty flat and dull - Syndicate may have had the better concept but x-com did many of the same things and was much better as an actual game.
I remember it getting a fairly bad reception but I though Syndicate Wars was a massively better game than the original; it actually needed real tactics, had a better pace, better atmosphere, cooler (and harder) missions and possibly the best explosions a computer game has ever had. Holy mother of god the explosions were amazing.
I would love to see a newer version along these lines (please Paradox).
