I see it suggested in the manual but havent really heard here or on other forums of people actually trying a peaceful trading game. I see a lot of problems with this..
1) You cant kick Reynaldo and Baron whatshisname's arse and thus find your relatives.
2) You won't beable to get promotions from the various nations, being unable to defend an escorted ship or attack others.
3) When your gov. daughter is kidnapped, she won't be getting rescued.
So that more or less kills every aspect of score save the money.
Anyone brave enough (or, in my case, bored enough) to take this on would probably need to play a limited combat variation. Only fighting to save the gov. daughters and to find lost relatives.
Anyhow, I've rambled long enough. If anyone else has peaceful trader games going, post your findings here, I'll try to post some more of my experiences and ideas when I get further into my game (1660, Adventurer, signed with Dutch).
