Any word on multiplayer?

Hi everyone, I have got very high hopes for CIV VI and going with what we have been shown the game looks very promising however, there is a major concern I have, the possible lack of a stable multiplayer.

Let's be honest, CIV V's multiplayer is lacking at best, having more than 4/5 players makes the game either extremely slow while passing turns or crash altogether which is a real shame as I love to play CIV with my friends but usually it takes about 1 hour to make the game work at all (if we are lucky). CIV is of course mostly a single player game however playing it with friends and human opponents in general takes the game to a different level and makes diplomacy feel alive in a way the AI will never manage to parallel, it is a shame that in the current iteration of CIV multiplayer is so broken.

So I'm just wondering, have the devs have said anything about CIV VI's multiplayer and whether it will be improved?

All we know right now is that civ6 will have multiplayer and that the devs are promising the option of shorter MP games.

It will exist. And you can determine the length of multiplayer games, somehow. I think I recall that you can use mods in multiplayer too. That's about the extent of that information.

What bothered me most in Civ V was the inability of AI opponents to...do anything. I had a longstanding tradition of playing with one or two friends against the AI, that tradition came to an end with Civ V. No diplomacy, no enemy units, just...the void.

What I find interesting with the unstacked cities and such is the wealth of information it brings for multiplayer games.

Apart from being able to see how far one is with building a wonder, one can also see what buildings your opponent has, as they are visible on the map.
