Anybody ever use explorers?

i hardly ever build privateers, explorers, subs, helicopters and paratroopers becuase they are all very very pointless

cutting an enemy's city roads off with cheap explorers was used to success. American civ...as soon as avaialable built a ton , attack.

I have never used an explorer myself, but in following a thread about goody huts I came across one other interesting note about explorers.

Explorers will never pop barbarians out of a goody hut. Might be something to work with.

After reading this thread, I made a few explorers as I went to war with Russia. Caused all sorts of havoc with them, too: pilligaing, then running around, then pilligaing again a couple turns later. Run across the mountains, scouting their foot unit movements.

Dig it.

I've never seen the AI make one: one more reason to use 'em.
