Well I play Civ I but I have played Civ II at a friends a bit. I think that Civ I is better... plus I'm saving myself for Civ III

First off... I'm not making fun of you or anything so please don't take offense.

I'm just genuinely curious as to what you find difficult about the view in Civ 2? This has been a common complaint that i've heard from people - yet I don't "get it". I LOVE the view in Civ 2 and thought it was one of the biggest improvements from the original...

What makes some people "see it" and others not?

The original Civilization, in retrospect, seems roundly streamlined - the reason behind its allure for nostalgic gamers. I personally like it for its customizability with a hexadecimal editor (cranking the "difficulty" integer up to 99...), so I never tire of it.

However, to many Civ II aficionados, it seems ugly and unplayable given the added graphics and usability that were bestowed upon the sequel. Despite this, the core framework has changed little and the only things securing Civ II Gold's long-term residence on my hard-drive are the scenario and multiplayer capabilities.

As you can probably discern, I'm not ardently awaiting Civ III's arrival, and am verily not going to pre-order it. Over almost the past year I have been vocally suggesting ways of improving turn-based strategy in various forums (until finding long-term residence here), but, of course, it's all in vain. Once it's released, I plan on carefully sifting through reviews and waiting for a decline in price and a new machine.

I played Civ 1 for almost six years before finally acquiring Civ 2. Had I played it for any longer, I might have gone insane by staring its very ugly and rudimentary graphics.
