Anyone else have problems with the map generator?

I recently tried playing archipelago maps, but I'm having problems getting anything other than a couple of huge continents, maybe two large islands, and a couple of small islands-- not my idea of an archipelago. This is what I expected from the Continent setting, but on that I would just get two huge continents and a few tiny islands. I tried choosing medium sized archipelago, but that seems to spawn me on a very small island with no resources every time. I'd like something in between. Wondering what settings other players prefer

sucks. I select pangea, I get TWO big continents. I select archipelago, I get two big continents. I select continents, i get two big continents. See a pattern here?

:p

You read my mind. I was thinking of posting this problem by myself, but I figured people would just tell me to stop complaining. Archipelago means small islands, and you never get those. Maybe it would help if you increased the ocean coverage. I haven't tried that yet.

When selecting pangaea i get several small continents with 4-5 civs each inhabiting them. This has been occurring roughly half the time.

If i choose continents with the largest landmass %, i get a pangaea with a few small isles bordering. :p

I think i heard mentioned in one of the patches, that they were trying to give the landmasses a more jagged, or realistic look. I'm not sure if this was an undocumented change, or if it can be found in one the readmes.

Seems like i was getting more accurate results before this though. Could just be bad draws for the past half a dozen games or so. I've restarted quite a few times because i wanted to be on an actual pangaea. :)

pangea 80% ocean ALWAYS gives 2+ continents. pangea 70% gives 1-2 or more continents. i dont play pangea 60% because the landmass is too big, so that boring ancient ICS would last even longer

I think i had heard this too, but I haven't seen any change in the type of land masses being generated. One thing the generator does that I do like is to produce more realistic looking individual land masses than civ2 (mountain ranges, realistic climate bands, etc.)
