I'm looking for a way for my brother and I to spend winter break and we have decided on a new board game, being that we are a little tired of the simplistic Shogun. Well I was looking into that old classic Axis and Allies when I remember seeing the civilization board game a few years ago. So has anyone here played it? I've read only positive reviews so far at other sites.

BTW This is one method of playing civlization multiplayer for us Mac users!

Hahaha, I've seen the Civ board game in action before. My roommate has it, and twice a quarter he gathers a few friends on a Satruday and they play a game. Meaning they'll start about noon and finish about 2-3am. O_O But it's a very good game nonetheless. I still haven't been around long enough to stay for a whole game and I really want to play it.

I used to play all those old board games all the time, but now I just don't have the time, and all of my friends who had the patience to play a 16-hour board game are scattered around the country. Civ was always one of my favorites.

That is, the Avalon Hill Civ board game, of course. I still wander in to gaming stores every now and then, and the other day I saw a Sid Meier's Civilization board game. You guys have probably already discussed it to death somewhere else on this forum, but in the three minutes I looked at it, it looked like Risk with technological advances, and didn't hold a candle to A-H Civ...

The Avalon Hill Civilization is an awesome boardgame. However it is absolutely best with 6 or 7 players. With only 2 players it is pathetic however. You do need 8 to 12 (minimum) hours to play it properly.

In university our group playtested the Advanced Civ expansion. I have fond memories of playing until the wee hours of the morning.

The only problem is that A-H civ is out of print and very pricey on ebay.
