Anyone playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance?

I'm a little stumped about what game to get next.

Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion looks as interesting as all the other Elder Scrolls games, but unfortunately, I hated the combat mechanics in Elder Scrolls 2, I hated the combat mechanics in Elder Scrolls 3, and so I'm probably going to hate the combat mechanics in Oblivion. Additionally, it just doesn't feel like a PC RPG when you only have one player in your party. Too bad. I love pretty much everything else I've heard about the game.

Neverwinter Nights 2 looked interesting, until I started talking to people who actually bought it. Word on the street is that this one is a big stinking dud. That's really too bad, because I've played an awful lot of "action" RPGs and it would be nice to play a proper CRPG (D&D rules at that) with a proper party and everything. Meh.

Company of Heroes looks sweet as hell, but after trying the demo, I remember why I prefer turn-based strategy games over real-time.

So the list of games likely to appeal to me is narrowing.

Has anyone tried out Marvel: Ultimate Alliance yet?

It's yet another "action" RPG (oh how I yearn for the real thing), and worse, it's a console port, but I did enjoy the demo for X-Men Legends 2.

How is it? How is it on the PC?

If you are a Marvel Comics fan or used to be, I would say get it. There are so many cool moments in the game. The number of cameos is amazing. It is an epic. Everyone and their mothers are in this game.

The game is beautiful but you need a ridiculously good computer to achieve good frame rates with details all on. On medium machines, your system is going to slow to a crawl if you turn on advanced lighting (that seems to be the thing that makes the game look like the screenshots you've been seeing). The good news is it still looks good with low detail.

Balance is an issue. It's great that they offer a good cross section of the MU but I doubt you will ever use Invisible Woman or Elektra because they just don't compare to the big guns (Thor, Spidey, Iron Man).

IMO, the game was very easy and short. I played on medium difficulty. I can't speak for Hard.

As you mentioned, it is a console port so it is best played with a controller. However, once I got used to it, the keyboard worked great.

Multiplayer is a huge plus.

Cinematics that move the story along is top notch.

If you don't like the source material, I think you're better off with something else buf if you do like the MU, I say get it. However I can't speak for whether it is a good action RPG because I hate action rpgs like Arcanum, Neverwinter, and Diablo. That can mean the game was so good that it made me enjoy something from that genre or it just strayed so much that it didn't resemble anything from that genre.

Have played and beat it twice, now I'm in "unlock everything" mode. Not sure if it's a keeper, but it's definitely enjoyable.
