Anyone playing on a fairly low spec PC ?

Imagroid - Sorry, your graphics card isn't going to cut it. Shared memory means it's an integrated graphics card, so it won't support hardware H&L.

danroduw - The key piece of information we need is your graphics card. The rest should be okay.

Ok, thanks, how do I find out which graphics card I have? I was able to play "Empires, Dawn of the World"

Works fine
1.24 Ghz Athlon
512 Mb Ram
ATI Radeon 9600 Atlantis
Win XP pro sp2

Looks like my specs are very similar to yours. Do you experience bad response times for giving units commands (simple movements for units/ building a city)? I am using low settings and there is still at least a 1-2 second delay before the command registers.

I am waiting for my 9600 card so I was just wondering if it's my 9250 that is causing the problems for right now. In addition, the 2K intro clip is pixelated pretty badly whereas for Warhhammer: Dawn of War I can see the movies with crystal clarity. So do you think Civ is just incompatible with the 9250?

wanted to spred the joy of the game running almost perfect on a low end pc

the only areas where I have noticed a lag in the game were:
-opening movie had a lage in audio every 30 seconds, really not too bad
-During gameplay certain buttons like 'show grid' and 'military advisor' seem to lock up the game but infact just take a long time to load
-everything else runs like a dream, no video slow downs which i really kind of expected.

Same for me :)

I have a fairly low (though I always thought it was a medium end PC) computer and those happen to me too. Turned the grid on and thought it locked up but just took 5 minutes for it to respond, other times it turns on after 20 seconds. Same with the F5 military screen.

Mine is almost as crappy -- 866/512 w/ GEForce 2 and runs fine. My comp is so bad that I don't even remember how fast the video card is :)
Yes!!!!!!!! This is my system only that I have a better video card (Geforce 5700 le) I've been looking for someone to post these specs. (Thank You) I only hope my copy shows up soon...:woohoo:

It's the 1 gig of RAM.

I had to put the CD in my other drive to get the machine to not LOCK UP COMPLETELY when I started the game.

Once I got that, It looks good, it stutters juuuuust a bit on wonder movies and other major cinematics/graphics changes.

I'm running an Athlon 1.5ghz, 512ram, 128mbNvidia, Win2k and it's gorgeous :D :goodjob:

So apparently, it's radeon's problem then

My computer is 3 years old. It has a cruddy video card (GEForce MX 4), which is why I had to shut off in game videos. Aside from that, and sometimes getting very choppy by 300 ad, it's fine.
dumb question maybe, but how do you turn off the videos? my computer doesn't seem to be able to handle them...

I've got a 1 gig RAM, but other than that my computer's well below recommended (in terms of that homepage which tells you how well it'll run anyway). But I've gotta say it's runs pretty well. I have no complaints. It did say on first startup that I was running below recommended settings. So anyway it's not excactly lightning fast, but it's running and I'm loving it! :)

Also, for those of you wondering about running the game on a machine with a graphics card w/o T&L, i'll tell you about my experience. The machine I mentioned above is my stationary, but i also did try to install it on my laptop. This is a pretty powerful piece of equipment, I got it just 5 months ago an it was pretty top-of-the-line then. Only thing is IT DOESN'T HAVE T&L! Results: The game installs and starts fine, but all the terrain is black (not the units etc though) and the animations of leaders are pretty strange, because for example all you see of ghandi is the moustache and glasses hanging in mid-air.

Meybe this could be fixed with some sort of patch from firaxis later on, or maybe that not possible. I'm no computer graphics expert. I only wish I had T&L on my laptop instead of the stationary... Oh well, at least it's running...

i have a 2.66 gig intel pentium 4 proceessor
and 40 some gis of free space
and a 64 mb graphics card all im worried about ius that all i got is 256mb of ram

will that be to littlle to play small worldds without major lag?

and if not how much does extra ram cost?

thanks

I'm on a 733 Mhz Intel P3 with a ati radeon 7200 and 512 mb of ram and it seems to run pretty well. There was just little lag in the intro video.

P3 800Mhz, 512M Ram, Windows 98, GeForce with T&L.

Running fine, two days never crashed ever, currently playing 1655AD with no slowdown as far as turns go.

Sound is a little choppy on the larger movies, I can live with that, in fact I just shut the movies off so the game starts faster with out the intro (2K logo and firaxis logo) movies loading. I usually shut them of on all Civ games once I've seen them.

I have got it windowed so I can send this reply while I play.

I am surprised how well it is running, still not convinced yet that it is better than Civ3, but it is starting to grow on me as I make my way through the game.

There's no really noticeable delay for me maybe a second here or there. But i also have a few feature on my Computer you may not.
For example I have dual channel DDR memory and a RAID 0 array. which might give me a bit of a boost.

Game runs perfectly for me. I am playing on medium settings atm with a less then stellar system on huge map...

p4 1.5ghz
512 RAM
Raedon 8500 128mb

I have 2 GHz, 512 ram with a SiS 760 32MB intergrated card and it works fine. Just a bit laggy, but it's not that laggy if I zoom in the closest.

Pounder, is this correct that you're running it under win98?

Let me know and maybe I'll go for the all time low system award.

pII 350
320 ram
Geforce3 ti200

What the heck, rather blow $50 on a game than $200 on a OS. Worth a shot.

If my machine runs it, I think I'll win the award for the lowest spec ever award.

AMD 1.3Ghz, 256MB Ram and 64MB GeForce.

I have a laptop and everything but my video card seems like it might work well:

Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz
512 DDR Memory
40 Gig harddrive
Radeon 345M 64MB Shared video card

Does anyone think I have hope? :(

I have exactly same specs as you do(CPU P4 2.8GHz) and was able to run it but all I could see was forest tiles and settlers the rest of the terrain was black and no faces just mouth. Still hoping thats not a video card issue. It's T&L card and should be able to handle this game.:(

Ah, it's a race to the bottom is it?

Don't make me dig out the 286.
