Apolyton hands-on preview - Aug 21

I can understand leaving out wonder movies. We all watch em the first time, then skip the next 500 times.

I loved the wonder movies in Civ II. I never turned them off. I particularly liked Adam Smith's wonder. Loved that music. :D

The wonder movies from the other iterations of Civ weren't as good in my opinion.

It'd be nice if they add them as DLC but I wouldn't be heartbroken if they didn't. .

Must be your browser cache. I've fixed it already half a day ago, and these images are still all there, just checked it.

:p If that is the case this browser cache fails on my fiance's laptop, my own computer as well as on PC that's at my work. Pictures are visible only till The Giant. Death. Robot. in Action!, then from Great Artist onwards there are no screenshots...

Yes, the Arrival of the Queen of Sheba. That's fantastic and it happens to be the only wonder movie I still remember.

If the wonder movies are of high enough quality, and the wonders are sufficiently difficult to build, then I think wonder movies would be a nice addition.

Yeah, I just clicked on the link today and I can't see them either.

Most of the images are still missing; only the first 5 are showing. I've tried refreshing and deleting cache, and viewing it from a different computer.

edit: here's the html from an image call that works:

Code:
<img src="http://apolyton.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=166931&amp;stc=1&amp;d=1282340360" border="0" alt="" />

The image calls that don't work are missing some parameters (stc= and d=).

Code:
<img src="http://apolyton.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=166954" border="0" alt="" />

Don't work for me either, using Opera and internet explorer btw.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Also thought it was my browser...

Fixed now!
You guys had to register/login to see the images from 'albums'. ;)
I now made the pictures available for unregistered users as well.

All those new vB4 options, gives me a headache :D
(now someone is most probably going to tell me it was like this in vB3 as well.....)

Thanks Robert, we can finally confirm that there is Barbarian Infantry in modern times! So imo all the whines about how useless Furor Teutonicus are pointless now :)

Was the barbarian encampment updated as well? I seem to recall that it wasn't and it still had the wooden pallisades. It'd be nice if they could update that as time passed in the game. It's cool to see Barbarian infantry though. :D

Thanks for fixing it! :)

I don't want the AI civilizations to act like players. I want them to act like civilizations. Otherwise the game becomes too gamey.

But you the player are going to play to win. If they aren't, it simply makes the game easier for the player. That seems like a bad idea to me.

The correct purpose of World Builder (Beater!) is for that moment when you know you cannot win, even though it is only 1570, largely owing to having had one idiot (Shaka, Monty too, but mostly Shaka) spawn near to you and proceed to declare an unwinnable but time and resource sapping war repeatedly. It is no longer about winning, but about piling nuke upon nuke, allied by Modern Armours in your safest cities and proceeding to obliterate the objectionable sort from the face of the Earth before quitting to start a new game.

That is what World Builder is for!

nope.

personally i use WB to create advantageous starting positions for the capital and ( if needed) the first coastal city. i usually give myself 1 mechanized infantry, specially designed to defend a city. its only one (or two) good cities in the entire game. i can run with that.

useful if you hate having to adapt to every little thing. and hate losing. etc.

Why don't you just drop a difficulty level? Or play an easier game that requires less adaptability?

Granted, when I played Civ2, I used the cheat feature. But I almost always did it towards the end of the game when I was bored and wanted to nuke people. And I never learned to become a better player because of it. It's removal in Civ3 helped me immensely.

id probably play right from normal. (without cheating, of course) and, i do (galactic civilizations) but i still want to play civilization.

its gonna be difficult to create a 4x4 sphere on a hex grid.
