Yesterday FortyJ asked that the following message be sent to Apolyton.
We, the good people of Fanatikou, recognize that we have no greater friend and ally than the fair people of Apolytonia. We are indeed Blood Brothers as we had initially set forth so many turns ago.

The fall of Elucidia has indeed shaken the foundation of our continent and, as brothers, we must take action lest the evil that rid the world of our Elucidian brethren exact the same fate upon us both.

Fortunately, Elucidia's dying wishes may prove to be the foundation for a greater and stronger bond than we ourselves could possibly have imagined before this day. We are now faced with the opportunity to forge a partnership that could launch both of our nations to unparalleled glory.

We propose the following:

Full and total parity in technology between our two nations as of this moment - both in what we know and are currently studying.

That we share our world maps so that we can better devise a strategy to deal with our mutual enemy.

That neither nation shall participate in any trading of any sorts with the Gamecatcher Alliance.

That Apolytonia join in the defense of our mutual survival, for if Fanatikou falls, then Apolytonia will surely be next.

I urge you to accept this proposal for the betterment of both of our nations. Let us honor not only the memory of Elucidia, but also the dying wishes of those souls who have so generously presented us with the means to leapfrog the rest of the continent, nay, the world, in both technology and power.

Our nations united can accomplish much more than if we remain divided.

On behalf of your Blood Brothers in the South,
FortyJ
President of Fanatikou

From Apolyton, we received the following response:

To Fanatikou:

In response to the lastest proposal sent by Fanatikou, Apolyton would like to first and foremost reafirm it's friendship with Fanatikou and it's committment to upholding the last wishes of our neighbor, Elucidia.

Nevertheless, we find ourselves rather disappointed by CFC's refusal to go along with the Construction for Code of Laws and Philosophy trade which was ratified by both our nations in writing. Failure to comply in this regard is considered by Apolyton a flagarnt violation of a signed agreement, regardless of the consequences which led Fanatikou to this unfortunate decision. Strong relationships are cemented not merely in treaties, but in the trust which results from respecting those treaties to the word.

By failing to respect the technology trade, CFC has made it clear to us that there is no reason why it may not seek a similar solution to a future signed agreement. It is for this reason that we fear such a proposal will not pass should it be subjected to vote, until our people are confident that CFC is willing to honor it's past commitments.

The people of Apolyton urge Fanatikou to reconsider it's position on the Construction deal, until that is done, it will be difficult for our people to accept further proposals. Regardless, Apolyton reafirms its total committment to respecting the final agreement regarding CDG, in which Apolyton shall join Fanatikou in it's struggle against the Gamecatcher's Alliance. We shall intervene shortly, and decisively until this common threat to our mutual security is wiped out forever.

Best Regards

We have bad relations from a trade voted on by 3 citizens :simmering anger:

Look, if the poll hadn't closed by the time I got there, I may have voted. I think many of us may have confused this poll with a one earlier, with a similar name.

Simply say to them, the only reason why we didn't honor the trade was due to a polling fault, and that the issue will be re-polled. Now lets redo that poll!

Not much different than I expected from them.

I have no problems giving them the Construction technology, provided they are indeed allies in our struggle against GCA. Up until now, they have done nothing but talk the talk, without walking the walk (not even a map trade because it would violate their agreement with our enemy).

Let's go ahead and give them Construction and then we can watch them trade it to GCA (I'd wager they'll do this even if we explicitly tell them not to), then sit back and continue building cities while GCA destroys us.

<><><><><>

Just another thought... Why are they so concerned about getting Construction immediately when they will get it all the same under the proposed agreement? Could they be more reluctant to join our fight than previously believed? Is this how "blood brothers" act?

Keep in mind, that we have never once implied that they wouldn't get Construction from us. In fact, the wording of my proposal does not even stipulate trading Construction for anything, only the sharing of all knowledge.

Perhaps, we could inquire if they would be adverse to signing this deal after we gave them Construction (which we could do next turn).... I'd bet they'll respond with "Give us Constr, and we'll consider the offer" or something similarly non-committal.

I'm not liking this at all. I'm starting to get the feeling that our Blood Brothers aren't too concerned with how much bleeding we're doing down here.
