I have played a few games now, and at least 3 times have encountered apostles that are unkillable. My apostle attaks them and dies in the atttack, and inflicts like may 1-2% dmg. What the hell?

Check their attack power. If someone's got +15 on you or so you'll do tiny damage. I think this is mainly possible with certain governments and maybe a few other sources of bonuses.

Ah.. didn't think to look at that. My apostles are 110, theres are 130 !
They get +5 from theocracy, +5 religious orders, and +20 from founder belief I think - damn hard to kill

The +20 is the debater promotion. Most of their apostles won't have that. It is also a possibility for a promotion for one of your apostles. The best way to deal with it is to pull back your religious units until the debater is used up converting cities, then use inquisitors to change them back.

It's a good idea to get Yerevan (I think) as suzerain, then give the +20 combat promotion for your first 2 apostles. If you are invaded, stand next to a holy district, and let the others attack while you tank and heal pr turn. You can have them suicide en masse, and convert cities while doing so. Yerevan is also good for getting the natural wonder promotion, you can then convert 3 times, and return to envangelise a belief with further apostles.

The policies that increase combat powers are also good, sometimes important. The beliefs Denfender of the Faith, and the Crusader one, also give combat bonuses to faith units, and they can be good too. Basically your Apostles can become the invincible ones.
