Archaeological Wonder?

Looks good! It can certainly be useful as archeological/Necropolis/Catacombe/Fantasy improvement or wonder. Thank you.

PS. The colormaps you have used in icons for buildings-large and -small doesn't match the original Firaxis ones, which means they have to be re-indexed before people can use them (or it will look ugly).

The icons designed for the city screen are meant to be pasted into the buildings large & small files. The background & border colors in these files will not be used since they will be replaced by the usual magenta & green. I'm sure they're only used here to make looking at them easier on the eyes - they're in the last two positions in the colormap any way. I'd find it easiest to select all except those two colors, then copy & paste into the buildings file.

Anyone using this set is likely to be using multiple other custom improvements. That means the building large & small files will need to be put in rgb format, have all the new items pasted in then reindexed any way.

So your comment applies to all custom improvements - not just Zubareva's. Probably better to have placed it in one of the tutorial threads - more people would get the benefit of it that way.

Ok so is there a problem with them? I think he's referring to the last two positions which are transparent. Or am i missing something?

But yes, Blue is right, that magenta color is painful to look at as a JPG after a while.

What I meant was that if you would try to paste the icons into buildings-large/small.pcx the only colors that would be OK was index 254 and 255 (the border and transparent ones). The others are different from the original Firaxis, meaning the icons have to be pasted into a RGB-version (un-indexed) of buildings-large/small.pcx and then re-indexed the whole file to make it look right. Just looking at them as a single image file won't be a problem, but since they are meant to be included in the buildings-xxxx.pcx file, it would have been better if they already had identical colormap (or palette if you like) as the Firaxis origin. I'm not unhappy with the work you've done, BTW. Just mentioned it for ease of implementation in people's icon-files, thats all.

Yes, i see what you mean. Unfortunate, but true reality. I keep an extra a city screen in 1 million plus colors and add the buildings as I mod, and when complete, Ill reduce the colors to 256 and correct it as needed.

Its alot of work, I know, but i find the original too limiting, and I like vivid color. I do try to use vanilla colors when posting, because im aware of the color problem with the city screen icon file.

:)

You may want to follow Blue's advise and post a search question in the right forum, I wouldnt be surprised if one of the great modders around here has a nice blank city view file with a more diverse color assortment.

But here is one that might help you..

hold on i have to find the right pcx

It's not a problem at all for me, since I have the vanilla palettes saved and ready to use whenever I have to re-index icons. I was merely thinking of people with less experience/interest in dealing with indexed images. They could meet a brickwall when trying to paste the icons directly into their buildings-xxx.pcx. That would be a pity, 'cause I think your work is good quality and the easier to use, the better. On the other hand, most (active) people in here probably know how to work around such issues.

Any useful set is going to vary from scenario to scenario. Publish what looks best not what suits the lowest common denominator, imho.

Thats true, ive found in my case, that ive had to trade off various whites that are common in ancient greco buildings, for colors. The whites are less bright and more washed out greys and off whites, but i get colors in trade.

256 colors is...256 colors, i guess we have to live with it!

I dont really notice it, i think the colors are worth it.

Zubareva,

I feel like I've never seen that terrain. Have I just missed it or is it your personal set?

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Youre welcome wuhjah.

And welcome to Civfanatics! This is a place where the love of civilization makes us family!

I hope to see some wonderful new creations from you someday!
